Design Compressive Load (P) 60 KN

Area of Base Plate Required = P 6666.667 mm2

0.45*fck
Length of base plate required 81.64966 mm

Provide Length of Base Plate ( L ) = 250 mm

Now,

Now ,
This pressure distribution should not be greater than bearing strength of concrete

Equating Bearing Strength with the pressure distribution formula

We get,

Breadth of Base Plate = 26.66667 mm

Provide Base Plate breadth ( B ) = 250 mm
Provided size of Base Plate (L x B )= 250 x 250 mm
Area of base plate ( A ) = 62500 mm2
Elastic Section Modulous (Ze) 2604167 mm3

Max'm Projection from end of pipe to end of base plate ( a ) = 138.7267 mm

Min'm Projection from end of pipe to end of base plate ( b ) = 123.2 mm

Now,
Maximum Pressure = (P/A) 0.96 < 9N/mm2 OK

Thickness of Base Plate can be obtained from Cl 7.4.3.1 ( IS 800:2007 )

So,

Required thickness of base plate (tp) = 12.45566 mm

Provide Thickness of Base Plate ( t b ) 14 >tf= 3.6 mm OK

Dimension of Base Plate

Number of plates 2
L= 250 mm
B= 250 mm
tb = 14 mm

Checking the base plate size using effective area method

i) Considering no overlap

Effective area ( Aeff) = pi()*(D-t)*(t+2*c)

Equating effective area to the required area, we get,

c = 44.17701 mm
Therefore,
D-2*t
= 34.45 mm
2

There is an overlap.The calculated value of c is not valid.

ii) Consideing overlap

Effective area ( Aeff) = pi()*(D+2*c)^2

4

c = 45.8589239722427 mm
CONNECTION OF BASE PLATE AND COLUMN

Thickness of weld ( t ) 4 mm
Throat thickn ess 2.8 mm
Length available for welding along the column profile 239.0752 mm
Reducing this length by 5% ( Accounting for fabrication errors )
So,
Available length of weld 230 mm
Efflective length of weld available 134 mm
Strength of fillet weld per mm 441.8654 N/mm

Length of fillet weld required 135.788 mm NOT OK

Providing extra stiffener plates to increase the length of the weld

BOLTED CONNECTION ( Check For Shear Force )
Shear Force ( F ) 80 KN
Assume Dia of Bolts ( d ) = 16 mm
Dia of Holes ( d0 ) = 18 mm
Asb 201.0619 mm2
Anb 156.8283 mm2
Design Shear Strength Bolt (Vdsb) = Anb*(fub/√3) 28.97436 KN
gmb

Minimum Edge Distance = 1.5*dia of hole (d 0) 27 mm

Provide Edge distance ( e ) = 50 mm

Minimum Pitch = 2.5 * dia of bolt ( d ) 40 mm

Provide pitch ( p ) = 200 mm

e p fub
Kb = min of ( or -0.25 or or 1 )
3*do 3*do fu

Kb = 0.925926

Now,
Design Bearing Strength of Bolt ( Vdpb ) = 2.5 *Kb * d * t * fu 170.0741 KN
gmb

Strength of Bolt = min ( Vdsb or Vdpb ) 28.97436 KN

Assuming complete bearing, so 50% of axial load is transferred to base plate and
another 50% will be transferred through angle connection

Number of Bolts ( n ) = P 2.761062 nos.

Bolt value

Provide number of bolts ( n ) 4 nos

ANCHOR BOLT FOR UPLIFT ( From N. Subramaniam )

Uplift ( Nu ) 80 KN

Nu = k * sqrt(fck) * (heff)^1.5 ACI 318-2005

where
k= 13.5 for post installed anchors and 15.5 for cast insitu headed studs and headed anchor bolts
k 15.5
heff = embedment length

heff = 1.100260514 m
heff = 1100.260514 mm

This length is required if 1 bolt is provided

We have provided 4 nos

So,
heff for 4 nos of bolt 280 mm

So, provide 4 nos. 16 mm dia 300 mm long anchor bolts

Also,
Tensile strength of bolt of size 16 mm 45.16655 KN
Number of bolts provided 4 Nos.
Tensile Capacity of 4 boltts 180.6662 KN
This is greater than uplift = 80 KN, which is OK
