Preparation for the oral
presentation
The Dos and Don’ts of Oral Presentations

Note: Some of these tips are true for face-to-face


presentations. Face-to-face presenting is slightly different
from presenting online.
While preparing your presentation

 Prepare and rehearse the presentation.

 Check the pronunciation of difficult words.

 Use words that express your ideas clearly.


DOs  Provide adequate support for your ideas.

While delivering your presentation

 Start and stop your presentation on time.

 Maintain eye contact with the audience (in the


classroom).
 Don’t read your notes.

 Don’t speak in a monotone or mumble.

 Don’t sit or lean on the desk.

 Don’t hide behind the desk.


DON’Ts
 Don’t forget your audience.

 Don’t sway or rock in place.

 Don’t pace back and forth.

 Don’t stand in front of your visual aids.

SHOULD BE 3-5 MINUTES. MINUTES.
The following structures can help you to improve your
presentation.
USEFUL It takes some time to practice to use them correctly.

Follow these steps:
1. Go to the Nat Geo travel photo contest website
(e.g. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/contests/travel-photo-contest/2019/winners/ OR
https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/photography-competition-2020)

2. Choose a photograph
3. Think about things you can say about the photograph
4. Fill in the Outline sheet
5. Prepare a simple PPT presentation
6. Record yourself making the presentation
7. Submit the video + the Presenter’s Checklist + the Outline sheet to your teacher

Task: You will make a presentation about a NatGeo photograph.

presentation.
