Cyber Cox Cub of the Week: Congratulations to the following students for being an awesome Cyber Cox Cub of
the week for last week: Nicholas Camuso, Logan Ah’mere, Alanna Weston, Joseph Alliyani, Jewel Largusa, Emmy
Walker, Joshua Sison, Readan Lewis, Ty Holt, Max Ledwon, and Sylvia Lindgren!
Parents can pick up their certificates in the front office or during our student/parent week packet pick-ups.

Milers: Great job to the following students for putting in their miles last week: Laya Vinay has completed 137.5
miles! Quinton Avery is at 80 miles!
Parents send me the names of your students and their miles completed so I can celebrate them in our newsletter!

DMC Family Dinner Night: We are finally able to get our monthly Family Dinner Nights going again and our first
one is a “Drive Thru Only” at the Chick-A-Filet on Eastern…Wednesday, 2/24, 4-8pm.

Kudos to Cox Cub Carl LoBue: We are proud of our 5th grade Cub, Carl LoBue as he is the first to reach the 5th
grade Mastery Level in the Kahn math program. This is a very challenging task for the students and we are very
proud of him! He was awarded a Target gift card for accomplishing this task (which was donated by his teacher and
our PTA). Great Job Carl!

Did you KNOW??? We have 2 amazing students who sent us videos of themselves saying our Pledge of Allegiance
and the DMC Pledge? These students are shown during our “Morning Beginnings” video at the beginning of each
week. Thank you to Camilla Courtney and to Serenity Richardson for sending in their videos! We love having
the students do announcements! Your child may send in their recording to their classroom teacher for Mrs. Heinlen
to showcase during our Morning Beginnings!

To All Our Familes: Due to the mandates within the PK-3 Hybrid Manual Specialist’s schedules will remain the
same for students in grades 4 and 5. Beginning March 1st we will have a full-time Library substitute who will take
over the “Library Literacy” block due to students returning to the building.

Parent Live Stream Hybrid Presentation: Parents, on Monday, 2/23, at 6:00 pm I will be presenting a live
stream on the hybrid model at DMC and what you can expect in terms of schedules, lunches, safety,
arrival/dismissal, etc. The streaming link is below and there will be a link Mrs. Heinlen will send out for you to ask
questions throughout the presentation. The presentation will be from 6:00-6:30 pm with questions taken at 6:30 pm –
6:45 pm. I hope you can join us, please feel free to view and ask questions for all grade levels (as we all think our 4th
and 5th graders will be returning soon).

PK-3 Families (2ndposting): WE DID NOT AND DO NOT PLACE STUDENTS INTO THEIR COHORTS. THIS
WAS DONE AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL. Whether your child gets placed into Cohort A (Monday/Tuesday) or
Cohort B (Thursday/Friday) is not a decision made by anyone at David M. Cox Elementary. However, a request to
change a cohort is done at the school level; due to teacher numbers, requests may not be able to be granted and all
requests for changes may effect school bus transportation.

Hybrid PK-3 News: We are working diligently to get all the schedules and safety measures in place in our building
for our students to return. Some important information and dates…
 PK-3 students who are on Cohort A and Cohort B will return on March 1st to in-person learning.
 SAFEKEY for the City of Henderson will be available for before and after school for your child’s Cohort
days.
 There will be new learning/instructional schedules based on the 3 different Cohorts.
 Cohort C (distance learning) will remain learning at home, logging into their sessions at scheduled times.
 Cohort A and Cohort B students will bring their Chromebooks to school on their designated school days.
 Cohort A and Cohort B students will need to bring a water bottle to school on their designated days as the
drinking fountains are NOT available for student use.
 All students when on campus MUST be wearing a mask and should have a back-up mask in their backpacks.
 Cohort A and Cohort B students will not bring supplies from home; all supplies needed for in-person
learning will be provided to students at their desks. *There will be no community class sharing of supplies.
 Students will be given instructional breaks but will not be allowed to access the playground playscapes.
 We will be sending out the school maps for campus locations for arrival and pick-up as soon as we get an
update from the asphalt construction taking place.

Student-State WIDA Testing Begins Thursday: Mrs. Heinlen and Mrs. Imboden will begin the second language
state assessment (WIDA) with our 4th and 5th graders this Thursday and Friday! Good luck to all our awesome Cubs!
2nd and 3rd graders will test on Thursday 2/22 and Friday 2/23 from 9:30-11:30 am. First graders will test when we
return in-person as will Kindergarteners (as they must be tested 1 on 1)
*These tests will be counted for our state school rating.

RECORDERS for 4th & 5th Grade: Students in grades 4 and 5 will learn to read music notes by playing a small
flute-like instrument called a Recorder. Many students already own a recorder from previous years. Recorders will
be on sale in our David M. Cox Webstore beginning March 1st. The cost will be $7. If your family cannot afford one
at this time, please contact Mrs. Papanek and we will work something out.
