PATRIOT Evolution
• PAC-3 developed Hit-to Kill capability
primarily to increase lethality against
TBMs and can also intercept a variety
of threats
• PAC-3 CRI expanded the Patriot
battlespace
• PAC-3 MSE further expands intercept
capability battlespace

PAC-3 CRI and MSE Increases both Battlespace and Lethality

Lockheed Martin Overview 3

Summary: The PAC-3 System
• PAC-3 missiles employ Hit-to-Kill technology that is required to destroy
Weapons of Mass Destruction
– PAC-3’s substantial energy imparted on the target at high altitudes results in little to
no lethal effects on the ground
• MSE has increased lethality and battlespace while also improving
logistical flexibility and increasing safety
• PAC-3 increases PATRIOT firepower
• PAC-3 is the only fielded and combat
proven Hit-to-Kill interceptor
– Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003
• PAC-3 defends against the Patriot
threat set
– Tactical ballistic missiles
– Cruise missiles
– Aircraft
The Hit-to-Kill PAC-3 Missile is the World’s Most Advanced, Capable, Lower Tier Air Defense Missile

Nirvana – A Single, Integrated GBAD Solution

• The key to delivering a single, integrated IAMD capability is Interoperability:

• An open, flexible, networked Command & Control system capable of operating with multiple
sensors and effector types
• Sensors that provide outputs in accordance with open standards ( e.g. ASTERIX)
• Effector systems that support an open interface
• Such a system provides many benefits:
• Using open interface standards helps safeguard the system against obsolescence
• It supports incremental capability growth as additional elements can be added without the need
for major architecture changes
• Having a single system capable of fulfilling a number of GBAD missions has the potential to
provide tremendous saving in terms of training, and logistic support

Lockheed Martin has recognised these benefits and has developed SkyKeeper Command
& Control to provide the basis for such a system

Lockheed Martin Overview 5

SkyKeeper Architecture
• SkyKeeper’s flexible System
Architecture supports a wide range of
operational scenarios, ranging from
fielding a single Node/TOC for early
entry capability, through to a fully
networked Multi-Node system
• Components act as deployable
‘processing nodes’, either singly or as
part of a distributed network
• Provides capability at all levels of the
Order of Battle (ORBAT)
• Supports deployment throughout the
command structure, and supports
information flow up and down the
hierarchy
• Existing SkyKeeper instantiations are
deployed at Division, Brigade, and
below
• Core functionality is built on an open
Publish & Subscribe software baseline
