Q1. Write a short note on any 3 popular assessment
center method/exercise?
 
Ans.-In-tray exercise-
•In the In-tray exercise, the candidate is provided a
scenario where he is a new role holder of a fictitious
company
 
•Example- simulates the typical pile of papers that might
confront a job holder on a particular day. It ensures
targeted upon particular competencies and it is made
clear to participants that it is not a test of delegation. It is
important that the participant responds the way in which
he/she would in a real- life situation.
 
•Used for evaluating competencies like planning and
organizing, written
Communication, problem solving, execution skill, result
orientation, decision making, risk-taking, delegation of
responsibilities, and soon.
 
2. Competency based interview-
•The competency-based interview is similar to critical
incident interview
 
• Candidates areas ked to describe situations or incidents
when they felt effective on the job and those when they
felt ineffective
 
The competency based interview technique in
assessment centre provides information on the
managerial behavior aspects on the job that normally
would not be directly observable
 
3. Casestudy-
 
• Case study is a descriptive record of area life or of
simulated situation in the form of an incident or a case.
 
•In a case study, the candidate is expected to visualize
himself as the person in the case experiencing the
situation and then find a solution of which he has to
accept the ownership.
 
•The case study provides the candidate a nine sight and
experience in evaluation of a situation correctly and a
lows them to develop skills in working with data,
relating facts to action, deciding what to do and com m it
ting them to a course of action.
 
 
Q2. Prepare atleast two exercises for the assessment
centre to measure the following competencies along
with the measurement criteria.

2. Strategic decision
3. Decision making
 
Ans-. In-tray exercise- as in this method candidate is
provided a scenario which he will be performing in
future this method is used to determine the capabilities of
an individual in a given time period for examples its help
the HR to measure competency like.
 
Innovation- as the candidate are given the specific role

person can be able to generate the innovative
competency of the candidate what new innovation and
technique she uses when he is assigned a scenario for
example if he is assigned as an marketing executive the
hr. person can predict the innovative skills qualities of an
person how he takes the charge to sell the product and
services how much innovative he/she is what all new
methods can be adopted to increase the sales volumes or
to get customer loyalty so with this study the innovative
competency of an candidate can be measure in order for
fulfilling future job needs.
 
2. Strategic thinking- this is the another competency we
can measure by using this method for examples a person
is given a scenario like he is a marketing leader so how
he manages to take the strategic decisions like pricing,
policies, promotional strategies planning the process how
well he is using  his skill for critical thinking can be
measure by this.
 
Decision making- This decision making competency can
be measure by giving the scenario to the candidate like if
he/she becomes an hr. head how he/she will takes
decision while choosing the right candidate for job, by
assigning the duties according to competency of the
candidate and resolving problem and conflicts among the
employees so a time period can be given to candidate
and how efficiently he performs his role can be evaluate
by this method this will help hr. to measure the decision
making competency how wealth person is capable for
future roles or not.
So this method basically helps hr. in order to would
require competency of a candidate to fill the required
jobs in future.

or case the candidate are given the case and ask them to
solve the case or an incident keeping he/she in that
situation this method is very used in the organization in
order to measure the various competency of an
individual. So there are some of the competencies which
can be measure by this method like-

candidate can be measure by this method by giving the
certain incidents or area life case of the situation and
asked the candidate to keep themselves in that situation,
how they would react when that situation comes in future
this will help hr. to check how much innovative the
candidate

conclusionin comparison to the actual results, how depth
they are going in the case with deep thinking taking
strategic actions in solving that case
 
3.Decision making- we can measure the decision
making competency of an candidate in how prompt he is
in taking various managerial decisions how well they are
managing the problems their own opinion which can be
better than the real one how innovative they are while
taking steps to solve the problem without taking much
time whether their decision making is desirable or not
what all important decisions he is taking by keeping
himself in the cases or it help hr. to measure this decision
making with the help of this case study
So by this case study method we can measure this
competency easily and help hr. to evaluate the
capabilities of the individual when they are asked to put
themselves in that incident or case whichever is there in
the case study.
