Title:

Study the process of slub yarn and core spun yarn.

Abstract:

In this experiment we study that how slub and core spun yarn made. We produced core spun yarn
by making some alteration in normal ring frame machine. And slub yarn by changing the draft at
different instants. We do these changes to made special yarn for fashion wears or more elasticity.

Introduction:

In this experiment we study the preparation of slub and core spun yarn.

Slub yarn:

Slub yarn refers to yarn that has been purposely spun with slubs (thicker sections along the
yarn) while it was once seen only as a defect, slub yarn is now intentionally created to give
fabric more personality.

Types of slub yarn on the basis of visual effect:

1) Pattern/regular slub yarn
2) Non-pattern/irregular slub yarn
3) Multicount slub yarn
4) Both are pattern and non-pattern slub yarn.

Core spun yarn:

A yarn in which a base yarn is completely wrapped by a second yarn.

Core spun, or “polycore”, yarn is created by twisting staple fibers around
a central filament core, usually made of polyester for extra strength.
It is 40% to 50% stronger than normally spun yarn of the same weight,
and reduces the number of broken stitches when sewing seams and hems
on denim. We also use lycra as core yarn for elasticity in fabric.

Alteration in Ring frame:

For core spun yarn we made some alterations in simple ring

frame. We need an extra creel for core yarn package like lycra or
polyester and we also need extra rollers to give draft to core yarn
like lycra. In spinning more draft you give to lycra more elasticity
in yarn you get.
Procedure:

Core spun yarn:

First we run the ring frame machine for core spun yarn. We have two creels here one for core
yarn and other for roving. The roving follows its normal path from creel to drafting rollers
then spindle. While core yarn passing through other set of drafting rollers which is optional
meet with roving at front roller and then traveller insert twist in yarn. And yarn wind on
bobbin.

Slub yarn:

In slub yarn all setting is same as of simple yarn. But a servo motor produce jerk in back
roller and change draft at different time intervals. So, it produces interval of thin and thick
places in yarn and special yarn is produced.

Discussion:

The core spun yarn have a good weave ability, and the yarns and fabrics have a good shape
memory fix and recovery properties.it provide strength. We use it as sewing thread, high
performance textile, and in garments due to outstanding strength

The slub yarn was once only seen as a defect, but now intentionally created by speed
variation in back roller and middle roller. Slub yarn is a simple yet fancy type of yarn whose
appearance is attained due to the variation of linear yarn density during the spinning process.
Now it is becoming popular in production of denim on ring spinning, shirting and in knitwear

Conclusion:

Both yarns have different properties, the making principle of both yarn is different. These
yarns becoming popular in production of denim

Slub yarn produced by speed variations of rollers and the core yarn produced by emerging the
different yarn from front roller and then twisted them
