Introduction

I want you to know that my goal for this devo is to get you excited about the word and applying
your mind to it and making your life-goal to become like Jesus Christ.

Legendary Living – the essence of maturity in the Christian walk.

Youtube video - christian maturity, obedience, sanctification, patience in the lord, mind and renewing

Define: Sanctification - Its broad meaning is the process by which an entity is brought into relationship
with or attains the likeness of the holy.

The idea is that we are to be set apart

In the OT, we were told in Leviticus: Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD
your God. 8 Keep my statutes and do them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you.

In the NT God has come to reconcile them to himself and the future has already been set in motion.
FUTURE → Kingdom of Go

Quote by Fee “To be sure, the Spirit has not brought the fulness of the end but only its beginning, so
the Spirit’s presence does not confer final perfection in the present age but rather leads to growing
maturity in Christ, whereby Christians are ripened for their final transformation.”

So my topic is Legendary Living, being obedient to the reproofing of God that transform you into
the image of Christ. (2x).

How does God sanctify you? With the rod.

Hebrews 12:5-6
f“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
6For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”

Proverbs 13:24
Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Without being constantly broken and renewed you are not maturing as a Christian. The essence
of the Christian life is to become more like Christ. Check what road you're on.

Its a continual process of brokenness, repentence, and regrowth.

Challenge: if you aren't broken of your sin on a daily basis, I question how close of a walk with God
you have. Sometimes I have to escape to my car.

Cultural values: Drive-through starbucks and self-checkout Walmarts,. God does not work like
that. He is not of this world
If you spend time in the Bible, you know that there are a lot of stories where people just had to wait on
God.

Time

Psalm 27 “Wait on the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait on the lord.”
Psalm 31:24 “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!”

Examples:
-Moses 40 years in the desert to prepare his people to enter the promised land.
-David spent most of his life running from Saul in the wilderness before becoming King of Israel.
-Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness after being baptised by John. (Because God was testing
him)
-Jacob waited more than 7 years to marry Rachel

God can make you wait for good things!

So how do we spend our time: Giving every moment to God. Every breath, every thought, every
action, every deed. With no thought of the time, and allow God to build us up how he wants.

In the WORD: “Read this, and it will make you a man”

The Bible says David was a man after his own heart, the only one. Doesn't that make you want to be
that man? How can you not read that and then immediately stop and pray: LORD, I want to be like
David, a man after your own heart.

You know, Jonathan edwards has a resolution (my 4 pages in the shower:) Resolved, that if there were
any one man on the face of the earth that was a complete Christian, that I shall be that man, with all my
might.

What a drive to love God.

How does the Bible say we are transformed?

By the RENEWING of your MIND

“Faith is a reasoning trust, a trust which reckons thoughtfully and confidently on the trust-worthiness of
God.”

“... the deceit of the mind is the principle of all sin.”

KNOW the mind of Christ. Learn his decrees. Memorize scripture. Know his promises. And think
about the word. Don't just read it. Stop and think.

Personal story: My vision & My Problem

A vision will keep you on track. The vision needs to include your self but not be selfish. Or in
other words, the vision needs to be about blessing others and serving others and not about
getting more glory to you.
Anthony Robbins calls that leverage. Secular-psychology motivation. Where your heart is, that's
where your energy and emotions go. So put your heart in a vision that blesses others and is
God-centered!

So my story is... family man.

How does this apply to you?

Geo – invision yourself behind a podium, preaching the word with boldness in truth. Impacting
the lives of others.

Robby – visioning yourself hanging out with kids and infecting them by embodying the
character of Jesus Christ.

My vision gives me the drive to stay up late focusing on my studying. Gives me the drive to
say no to sin. The drive to press on.

Conclusion and practical steps

If there's one thing I want you to get out of this: If God knows that you are NOT ready for the work
he has prepared for you, than it is a matter of your heart that needs to be changed, which takes
time.

Or, in simpler terms, as we know Mark Moore says: “The Holy Spirit does WHATEVER he wants,
HOWEVER he wants to, to WHOMEVER he wants, WHENEVER he wants.

God's pace is not ours. Follow his decrees and align with his work, do not fight against him. If we do
that, we will experience more growth than if we don't.

What are your 5 main goals? If I asked you to write out five of them, what would they be. You have to
understand the #1 Goal of your life should be To become more like Jesus Christ.

I want to leave it there but I want to give you some practical means to doing this. A to do list:

1. Get in the word daily. You should plan AROUND a 2 hour personal devotion time. Kick people
out of your room if you have to. If you are talking to people more than you are talking to
God, than you have a problem. Ask yourself: Am I talking longer in conversations/hanging
out with people than I am in conversation with God in his Word?
2. Take small steps of faith to be obedient. Ask yourself: What can I do to bless others today?
And listen to what the Spirit says, and do it. Example of what I did with posting scriptures.
Do things like Josh says: Drive the speed limit, stop downloading music illegally, don't watch
worldy tv shows or music, avoid shows where you lust or cause you to idolize something.
3. Pray that God reproves you and sets your path's straight. We cannot see our sin clearly, we
need help with that from others and from the Spirit. Pray Psalm 139: “Oh Lord, search me and
know my heart, test me and know my thoughts, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Ask your
closest friends what sin they see in your life and do not get angry or upset about their answer.
