Q.

:The power input to the rotor of a 440V,50Hz,3-phase ,6-pole induction

motor is 50KW.It is observed that the rotor e.m.f. makes 120 complete
cycles per minute. Calculate (a) Slip (b) rotor speed (c) rotor copper
loss/phase (d) Mechanical power developed(e) Rotor resistance /phase if
rotor current is 50A
Sol:- Given supply voltage=440V
F=50 ,p=6,rotor input=50000W

Rotor frequency=120/60 =2 Hz
(a) Slip= Rotor frequency/ Supply frequency=2/50=4%
(b) Rotor spped= N= (1-s)NS
=(1-0.04)*120F/P
=960 r.p.m
(c) Rotor copper loss= s*rotor input
=.004*50000
=2KW
Rotor copper loss per phase=2000/3
=666.7 W
(D) Mechanical power developed=(1-s)rotor input
=(1-.04)*50000
=48KW.
(E) Let R2 be the rotor resistance/phase
3I2*I2*R2=2000
R2=2000/3*50*50
=0.267ohm.
Q:A 250V shunt motor takes a line current of 60A and runs at 800 r.p.m. Its
armature and field resistances are 0.2 and 125 ohms respectively. Contact
drop/brush=1V.Calculate
(a) No load speed if the no load current is 6A.
(b) The percentage reduction in the flux per pole in order that the speed
may be 1000r.p.m when armature current is 40A.Neglect the effect of
armature reaction
Sol:-Given:-
V=250V
(d) I1=60A, N1=800r.p.m, Ra=0.2ohms
Rsh=125ohms, Total contact drop= 2V
Ia2=40A,N2=1000r.p.m
No load speed:
Ish=250/125ohms=2A
At no-load
Current Ia0=I0- Ish
=6-2=4A
Eb0=V-Ia0Ra-brush drop
=250-.2*4-2=247.2V
At load:
Current Ia1=I1- Ish
=60-2=58A
Eb1=V-Ia1Ra-brush drop
=250-.0.2*58-2=236.4V
Using relation :-
N1/NO= Eb1/ Eb0*φ0/ φ1----------(a)

(Flux is assumed to be constant)

Equation a then reduced to
NO=836.5r.p.m

when armature current is 40A:-

Eb2=V-Ia2Ra-brush drop
=250-.2*40-2=240V
Using relation (a)
1000/800= 240/236.4* φ1/ φ2

Φ2/ φ1= 0.812

% reduction in flux= φ1- Φ2/ φ1=(1-0.812)
=18.8%

Sol:- 111001
010110----------------1s complement
------------------
[1]001111 ---------------add
+1
--------------------------
10000

Q: Find the Gray code of (10000110)2

Q:Minimize the following function using K-map

f (A,B,C,D) =Σm ( 0,1,2,3,6,8,9,10,11,12,13)
Sol:-
Octat=B’
Quad=AC’
Pair=A’CD’
Ans is B’+ AC’+ A’CD’
Q:An AM transmitter radiates 9KW of power when the carrier is
unmodulated and 10.125KW when the carrier is sinusoidally modulated.
Find the modulation index ,percentage of modulation .Now, if another sine
wave, corresponding to 40% modulation is transmitted simultaneously ,
then calculate the total radiated power.

Sol:- We know that:-

Pt =Pc (1+ma2/2)
BY using the above statement
10.125=10(1+ma2/2)
ma2=0.50
(b) Let the total modulation index is mt ,which is given by:-

mt =[(m1 )2+(m2 )2 ]0.5

mt =0.64
Total radiated power
Pt =Pc (1+mt2/2)
=9(1+0.642/2)0.5
=10.84KW
