The Gift Of Family Time

Dear Brighton Administration,

Our school is one of the best high schools in the state of Utah, and this idea is something

that can be implemented in all high schools. As we know, we have been living in a world of

uncertainties and confusion. This last year has been tough on everybody due to this easily spread

virus all over the world. This virus has created many issues in our world but also has had a few

benefits. The school has shut down plenty of times and then reopened again. So, I am going to

review the importance of family time for a developing child. I have come up with a solution to

improve students' mental, physical, and emotional state and help all of Brighton's students stay

on schedule and achieve better grades.

Currently, there are many unknowns in the world. Many high schoolers are confused,

meaning there is a significant amount of time that high schoolers spend on their phones, tv, and

not doing school work. The one recurring issue in our society and high school is the much

needed time spent with our families. Children require specific routines and also fixed amounts of

family time. In an interview with a psychologist, the most apparent subject was that this virus

had caused an excessive amount of time spent with one's family. However, he believes that this

amount of time is necessary for a growing child's health. The biggest thing that he repeated was

that children need a good structure and routine to develop a sense of identity(Owen).

The issue with family time is something that can be a straightforward fix. The best idea

for this problem to be fixed is to help children create a schedule that has a decent amount of

school work, a certain amount of time for activities, and lastly, for time spent with family

members. Although it is not possible to make all sporting events, it is possible to have a fix. For

example, making sure that the students in person are paying attention and making the students at

home sit in a chair with their zoom cameras turned on. If the cameras are not turned on, this

could be a way that teachers can take participation points and attendance as not being present.

This could be done by informing the students of all of the benefits that spending time with their

family has. For example, it strengthens a child's physical, mental, and emotional health. The

school administration would be informed on the benefits of spending time with a family on a

child. Having some routine and fixed time for certain things can help children achieve more

outside the classroom and school. From all of the surveys, and interviews that I have conducted,

the most apparent thing is that parents enjoy having their children at home, because they feel a

stronger bond. Both my parents, and an interviewee said something in relation that having extra

time with their children has benefited their children's mental, physical, and emotional health

(Saad, Sanchez).

Brighton is an excellent school, and the students' mental, emotional, and physical health

is something that should be prioritized. All in all, students are struggling because of the things

occurring in our world. However, this can be used for many years to come, without this so-called

virus. Having more time to spend with family can help prevent a child from having a poor state

of mind, feelings of sadness and positively benefit children. Brighton can help this by giving a

specific schedule, routine, and breaks from school.
