7. Data Recording and Data Comprising

7.1 Data Recording

The signals of sensors,VHF,microphones and the radars are collected by the main
control unit and the data acquisition unit. These signals are stored in the final record
medium of the PDC. The system configuration file and the radar image configuration
file are also recorded in the final record medium.

7.1.1 Real time of the data acquisition

Resolutions of acquisition time for all data are 0.01s and the data be saved to the main
computer and the PDC in real time.
1. Serial data of the sensors be collected and saved to the main computer in real time;
2. Analogue interfaces and switch interfaces data will be saved to the main computer
while they are acquired.
3. The acquired microphone audio data are recorded to a audio-file-format file in the
PDC whenever the audio signal is captured during 1 minute.
4. The acquired radio communication data are recorded as one file to the PDC
whenever the signal is captured during 1 minute.
5. The radar display image is captured in every 15 seconds and 4 images every minute,
the data is saved to the PDC after be compressed by the main computer .

7.1.2 Storage requirements for data recording

The capacity of the fixed PDC and the float-free PDC are all 32GB, it it can record
the data continuously for 48 hours. The capacity of the long-term storage medium is
512GB, it can record the data continuously for 30 days. Data be recorded must meet
the following requirements:
1. For serial port signal of the sensors, analogue data and switch data, up to 21
sentences with 82 characters in maximum length, per second.
2. Data recording of the microphone audio is captured by 3 radio channels, one of
which can connect 3 microphones. Audio data file size compressed is up to 252kB,
per minute per channel.
3. Data recording of the radio communication is only captured by one radio channel,
which can connect 3 VHF radio channels. Audio data file size compressed is up to
252kB, per minute.
4. Radar display image data is collected in every 15 seconds, up to 300kB per frame.

7.2 Data comprising

The recorded data are saved simultaneously to the main computer and the PDC, and the data can
be downloaded to the personal computer. The data is constructed with the data folder named with
the minute, the system configuration file and the radar image configuration file. Each folder

44

The content of “.itu” file adopts compressed G.722 format audio. The file can be played using
playback software or audio decompression software.

7.2.5 Radio/ECDIS image data

2 channels of Radar/ECDIS image data can be acquired, the file is named by time accurate
to the second. The last digit indicates the radar number, 1 for the first one, 2 for the second one
and 3 for the second one. One image is saved for each radar for every 15 seconds. The format of
the file name is: year-month-day-hour-min-sec-n.jpg, for example:
2006-01-25-09-55-14-1.jpg.The data format of this file is JPG. The file can be played by using
playback software or audio decompression software.

7.2.6 Configuration Information Data

While the other data are dynamic data and they are continuously saved to the PDC & HDD, the
system configuration information is static data that is set after installation. The file is
automatically given the name of “sys.ini”,”setup1.cfg” and ”setup2.cfg”. The system
configuration file contains information of vessel and devices installing configuration. The main
control software acquires the radar image according to the standard that defined in the radar image
acquiring configuration file, where “sys.ini”,”setup1.cfg” and ”setup2.cfg” are generated by radar
configuration tool “demo.exe” directly.

7.2.7 Configuration file “sys.ini”

8.2.10 Data Storage Format

The data is saved in the path designated in advance, generally in the “data” folder of certain root
directory, such as path “d:\data”. In the “data” folder, the data is organized again in a sub-folder
per minute, named after the time. For example, the data at 9:55 on January 25, 2006 is saved in the
relative path “\data\2006-01-25-09-55”, all the data acquired in this minute included. A folder will
be created every minute. The total folder quantity in 12 hours is “12x60=720”, the data will
refresh after the record time exceeds 12 hours, but the latest data in 12 hours will be always kept.
Please refer to Fig.8-8.

57
SEALANTERN ELECTRONICS CO., LTD

Fig.8-8 Data Format

Every folder consists of the compressed images of radar, the serial port data and the compressed
audio data file; the quantity is according to the configuration file, referring to Fig.8-9. The format
as follows:

Fig.8-9 File Configuration

1) Serial port Data: According to the sequence when devices with serial port is added, from
“1” to “n”, the data acquired by the “K” serial port is saved in the file “Mk.txt”, for
example, the data acquired by 4th serial port at 9:55 on January 25, 2006 is saved in the
folder “\data\2006-01-25-09-55\M04.txt”. The format inside is that one message forms one

58
SEALANTERN ELECTRONICS CO., LTD

line, and the time is added in front of the message, with the accuracy of 1 second. For
example, “2006-01-25-09-55-30 message data information”, the quantity of the data files
depends on the quantity of the serial ports.
2) Audio Data: The signals of 3 microphones are mixed by the mixer and connected to the
input channel forming an audio file in the system with the unit of “channel” inside. The
audio data at first channel is firstly saved in the file”1.wav”, and then forms a new file
named”1.itu”, the original file will be deleted automatically. The quantity of the audio data
files depends on the quantity of application audio channels.
3) Radar Data: A radar image will be acquired at certain interval, and saved in the form of
picture after compressed. For example the radar data acquired at 9:55 on January 25, 2006
is saved in the file “2006-01-25-09-55-30.jpg”. According to the interval designated in
advance, the quantity of radar data files in the data folder is different. For example, if the
image acquisition interval is changed to 15 seconds, the quantity of radar data file will be 4
in the folder.

All the data above is saved in the storage memory of the recording control unit, as well as backed
up in the PDC and FPDC. All the latest data in 48 hours will be saved, while the data at excess of
48 hours will be deleted automatically, and 720 hours data will be saved in the long-term storage
medium.
