Ang Alamat Ni Sibol at Gunaw

Ballet Manila breathes life into another timely story of love, nature and
legendary characters, and a unique all original Filipino tale production that
surely every Filipino will love and can relate too combining magic, myth and
a timely environmental message

Ballet Manila transforms the book written by Ed Maranan into a

spectacular ballet show combining color, movement and music highlighted
by a wedding between a goddess and a mortal, a garden of dancing flowers
and buzzing bees, and a classic battle between good and evil as waged by
the twins Sibol and Gunaw.

In the ballet, Macuja plays the goddess Luningning, tasked to preserve

nature, who falls in love with a mortal named Kapuy (Nazer Salgado). Their
marriage produces the twins Sibol (Bloom) and Gunaw (Doom) — danced by
Yanti Marduli and Francis Cascaño, respectively — who have the power to
nurture and destroy the Earth. While Sibol grows up like her mother, a
nurturer of the environment, her brother becomes her polar opposite and
sows the destruction of nature’s resources.

Goddess Luningning falls in love with the mortal Kapuy and they are
married. Luningning gives birth to the twins Sibol (Bloom) and Gunaw
(Doom) who fight over the fate of Bundok Pangarap. An epic battle ensues,
until Luningning intervenes to save the world from destruction.

The story’s theme, particularly relevant in the aftermath of Ondoy and

other devastating typhoons like Pepeng and Quedan that hit the country,“Si
Sibol at Si Gunaw” is influenced by the growing environmental awareness in
our society, particularly our concern over the degradation of our forests.

The magical elements in the story, the shows some various nature
landscapes and the mythological setting of the sky world-and-earth drama
lend themselves to theatrical spectacle, for child and adult audiences alike.

The story’s themes of love for nature and environmental protection sat
well. I definitely agree to the need to preserve and conserve our
environment and not abuse the available natural resources of our planet.
Everyone on our planet has been affected by global warming very badly.

From the floods and the typhoons, heat and drought, rising water
levels, garbage disposal and rising cost of living — we simply cannot ignore
all of the signs.
I really love the theme of the ballet show because I am really eager to
conserve and protect the nature especially now that we can really feel the
effect of global warming and climate change.

I was devastated because I am one of the victims of the typhoon

Ondoy. Our house in Pandacan Manila was flooded thank God our house and
our things are just slightly damaged. I was with my 2sisters but we really
reside at parañaque so our parents and my other siblings are clueless what
had happened to us that time, for me that was traumatic.

That’s why I really enjoyed watching the ballet show because I can
relate to its theme about the environment and its importance and how to
preserve and take good care of it.

I am also a big fan of a ballet show because when I was a kid I really
want to learn ballet, frustrated ballerina. That’s why I enjoy watching. I love
the colorful costumes they are pleasant in the eyes.

The story’s moral lesson is the responsibility of preserving the planet

that kids should be also aware from it and enjoy it as well.

I think the viewers would easily recognize the environmental message.

No one can quarrel with the advocacy that we must protect our trees,
preserve our watersheds, and use wisely our delicate and endangered
natural resources.
