Subject: 5 steps I will take to become world-class global leader and truly put the G in GLP
I will,
Be OPEN TO LEARN
As we travel to Mexico and Cuba, I want to make sure that I take advantage of every learning
opportunity I can, whether it be professional, academic, or personal. There are few experiences
as valuable as learning about, but especially traveling to another country and immersing yourself
in its culture. As a leader, I want to develop a bank of information and learning experiences.
These will help me become a more knowledgeable, diverse, and relatable leader in business.
International trade and the political economies in all countries are different and complex. Having
extensive knowledge about these topics on a global skill will help me become a better leader.

Be DISCIPLINED AND ACCOUNTABLE

I want to hold myself just as accountable and be just as disciplined when I am abroad compared
to when I am at home. Traveling globally for business isn’t a vacation. I have to actively
maintain my focus while abroad and set aside time for sightseeing if time exists. I’m there to do
my job and discipline and accountability will enable me to do it best.

Be WILLING TO TRY NEW THINGS

Similar to gaining new learning experiences, I want to be open to trying new things I have never
done before. Pushing my boundaries and going outside of my box is something that is super
important to me. There is nowhere better to push yourself outside of your comfort zone than a
new global setting. This builds a leader who is comfortable and can figure things out in all
situations, no matter what part of the globe they’re on at any particular moment in time.

Be AWARE AND SENSITIVE

A huge part of being a global leader is being sensitive and aware of the cultures with which you
are interacting. The easiest way to lose clients, fumble a business deal, or make a bad impression
is if you don’t display a lot of sensitivity to each culture’s practices and ideals. By traveling,
learning, experiencing, and using the advice I am given a diverse set of people, I will
instinctively become a more culturally aware and sensitive person and I will not make any
simple mistakes that would prevent me from even getting my foot in the door.

Be GROWTH ORIENTED
Every experience I have, I should walk away knowing something I did well and something I can
improve upon. Even at my highest of highs while I celebrate great successes, I want to always be
driven to see growth opportunities. Only then will I be able to optimize my potential.
