Activity #1: Writing Down My Insights and Coping Ways

Below are questions (adapted from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg website, 4/1/2020 )
to ‘hear how you are coping with these sudden changes, what you are learning about yourself and
advice you have for fellow students who are going through a similar situation.’⁷

Purposes:
 Explore and write down your thoughts and feelings to understand them more clearly.
 Come into terms with self and with the situations to feel better.

What to do: Please answer the following questions:

How are you doing with all of these changes? How do you think and feel about
it?
The hardest changes to understand and adjust to are the ones that are really
unexpected and out of our control like we are experiencing this global pandemic.
It is a challenge for me that results in overthinking not only for myself but for
others as well. I come to myself and learn that this magnitude of change is
difficult to overcome with but I'll often find that my experience can be made
better or worse depending on my reaction and my attitude.

What things have you found to work well and what has been most challenging
when it comes to finishing the previous semester online?
Having time for myself is really what matters most this day and motivating
myself that I can do better despite of the change. The most challenging part
for me in finishing this semester online is that my capability of absorbing the
lessons and how hard it is for me to connect with my professor.

What have you learned about yourself during this health crisis?
Don’t stress yourself on things that you can't control and acceptance doesn't
mean giving up entirely on your former situation. Having this health crisis is
difficult but I'll have valuable memories, skills, and relationships to carry forward,
but the point is that I am moving on, in my wider life.
Have you found any good ways to cope with all the current challenges?
Yes, by acknowledging my feelings, stay positive, explore some facts, and giving
myself time to adapt. Also, through developing and learning about myself in
terms of skills and how can I handle my emotions properly.
Do you have any advice for fellow students?
My advice is stay focus and move forward especially during this global pandemic
were in your focus will likely start to shift away from what you've lost and
toward what's new. This process may take a while, and you might be unwilling
to acknowledge it, but it's a vital part of coping with change. The key is to
move on with commitment.

What’s the one thing you’re looking forward to once things are back to normal?
I’m looking forward in going to school and be in class with the professors,
meeting with my classmates and having fun despite the stress throughout the
semester.
