Here’s a little book that I hope will help you get some idea
of what Astrology’s all about.

I also hope you like it.

1

When I was six I knew my ‘Star Sign’ (more accurately, my Sun Sign), which is
reasonably strange, but a little more unusual was the fact that I wanted to know what
it was.

I think I was disappointed to find out that I was a fish and not a big lion or a bull.

As I recollect, the driving force behind my need for knowing this information was that
it added something extra to my life. It was a bit like having some magic. That is, it
was something beyond the mundane, in this case in the heavens, thus connecting me
to a great deal more than a Primary School, pieces of plasticine, my toy soldier
collection and a fairly artless housing estate. Oh, and of course my go-cart.

That sense of being part of a much bigger picture probably gave me a feeling of
space, opportunity and freedom.

There was no development in my Astrology knowledge for many years after this
initial insight. I think this was because I was too busy playing cricket or football or
writing hilarious stories or inventing ingenious ways to be naughty.

Then, of course, suddenly there were girls to think about – how to kiss them, how to
talk to them without going red, generally just ‘how to’ with girls. This was coupled
with a relentless being in unrequited love.

Oh! The problems this brought – and the delights!

I was one of four boys, you see. And I went to an all boys’ prep school.
Understandably, girls were always an enigma.

Anyway, as you can imagine, I was very open to any ideas on how to improve my
situation with girls. That’s why I embraced Linda Goodman’s Love Signs.

Somehow, one day, this marvelous book came to me. I don’t know how this
happened, but I do know that when I had got hold of it, it was hidden in my bedroom,
somewhere near my magazines.

For those of you who don’t know, Love Signs is a superb book that explains how you
get on with boyfriends or girlfriends, according to their Sun Sign.

It was a book that was vital reading for me. And as I sifted through its pages to find
out how it would be between me and Sharon or Linda or Amanda or Fay I unwittingly
became very aware of the traits associated with the various signs of the Zodiac.

It was fantastic.

Other than Love Signs, I don’t remember any major Astrology activity at that time, but
I must have developed a healthy respect for the subject. That’s because I know a time
when I was about fifteen and was in a Physics lesson with the teacher telling us about
the planets. He was going on about how far away they were and that it was laughable
for anyone to think that Astrology worked in any way because of this huge distance.

I recall being very annoyed by this and knew that he was missing the point. I knew
somehow that Astrology wasn’t anything to do with gravity and distance, and that it
did work, and he was being a tiny-minded twit.

Time passed and I soon became twenty-six.

At that age I met Rebecca – commonly known as ‘The Magic Lady’. She introduced
me to the fact that there was far more to Astrology than just the Sun Sign – commonly
and incorrectly known as ‘Star Sign’. That is, there is far more to Astrology than just
your date of birth and being either a Pisces or a Taurus or an Aries and so on. It also
depends on the other planets and the time of your birth and where you were born.

One day The Magic Lady showed me where all of my planets were and thus
introduced me to the significance of this in relation to my potentials.

So, with The Magic Lady’s help I began to realize that I was not just a Pisces, which
means that the Sun was in the constellation Pisces when I was born. I discovered that
I also had a Scorpio Moon – when I was born, the Moon was in the constellation
Scorpio. Venus was in Aries, as was Jupiter and so on.

Each of these pieces of information gave more layers of meaning as to how I relate to
the heavens and as to what I’m all about.

For instance ‘my’ Sun is in the constellation Pisces, so I am a Pisces, so generally I’m
a gentle soul, perhaps with psychic tendencies. That’s very generally.
At the same time, however, my Venus is in Aries, which means that in love I’m very
up-front and direct and impatient. I also have a sense of destiny, not wanting to settle
down until later.

Anyway, driven by a great desire to know more, I read up about myself. It was superb
discovering more and more and finding out how - if I was honest – unbelievably
accurate it all was.

In not a very long time I had gained an easy understanding of the planets, of the signs
of the Zodiac and what they mean in terms of what we perceive here.

I particularly liked it when I had grasped the idea of how to predict the future and
look into the past.

I now refer to my chart on a daily basis and I’m regularly amazed even now at how
accurate it is. It works with the precision and timing of an Aston Martin.

Over and above that, Astrology helps me understand what’s going on with my life and
me. For instance if I see a difficult day in which Mars and the Sun are at odds with
each other, I know that when I feel edgy and pushy on that day it’s only the strongly
willful facets of my nature trying to assert themselves. Because I know this I can
handle these times a little more smoothly, or at least I know objectively what’s going
on. I am more aware of how I function.

Over the years I have noticed the workings of superb Astrologers and a particular
favourite is the Hororary Astrologer from England, John Frawley.

A Hororary Astrologer is one who answers specific questions accurately and in detail.
For instance, ‘Where are my car keys?’

At the time of the question he will draw up a chart that can actually tell you where the
car keys are – or whatever you want to know.
Once I had opted to go to one of John Frawley’s lectures instead of watching England
play football at Wembley against Italy. I felt quite guilty about not watching the game
and not being with the lads and a few beers. In fact, I felt a bit of a sissy being
cooped up talking Astrology.

Anyway, halfway through the class John Frawley referred to the match I was missing.
He had drawn up a chart of the game much earlier and now presented it on the
overhead projector.

He talked us through the chart, asking people’s opinions of how the game would go.
It was becoming clear that the match would be very even. John judged that it would
finish at 0-1 to Italy and that it would be a very dull game and that we weren’t missing
a thing.

On the way home I found out that Italy had indeed won 1-0 and that it was a very low
energy match.

Hence the precision of Hororary Astrology.

Another superb but very different astrologer is Liz Greene – she’s also from England
but lives in Switzerland. She has a psychological approach, which again is very
accurate, although in the eyes of John Frawley I imagine her approach is slightly
wishy-washy and imprecise. But don’t quote me on that.

As I say, Astrology without a doubt works and works very well and can help in many
ways. It’s not surprising that it was so hugely respected by the likes of Isaac Newton.
And it’s a shame that it is now terribly misunderstood by so many, which is down to
its misplaced association with the fun columns in the newspapers and women’s
magazines.

I am convinced this opinion will soon change quite radically.

 How it all works

Astrology certainly works. No doubts whatsoever.

But how does it work?

I won’t go into any great detail into this. So for the time being let’s just settle for a
little overall explanation.

I shall give you seven things to remember. They may take a little thinking about, but
be a little patient with them – even if initially they don’t make any sense or if you
don’t agree with them.

The first thing to remember is that every single thing in the whole Universe is
connected.

The second thing to remember is that without you there is nothing. So if you don’t
exist there is nothing. Thus the existence of your Universe is dependent on your
existence. As such you and your Universe are integrally connected.

The third thing to remember is that since you and your Universe are connected, any
change in your universe relates not only directly to you, it also relates directly to
everything else in your Universe. That’s because everything is connected.

The forth thing to remember is that, because all things in your Universe are directly
related to you and thus all changes in your universe are directly related to you, these
things and these changes reflect you and you reflect these changes.
The fifth thing to remember is that because they reflect you and vice versa there is
no causation in your Universe. There is simply change and every change relates to
every other change.

The sixth thing to remember is that the planets have specific fundamental meanings
that relate directly to what you are and thus to what is experienced by you in your
Universe.

The seventh thing to remember is that when a planet moves it reflects fundamental
changes that are going on within you, which in turn relates to what you experience in
your Universe.

If you consider all of the above along with the fact that we can easily calculate where
the planets are at any time, we can predict with reasonable accuracy what will be
happening for you at that time.
 Astrology, freewill and fate

If you understand that when a planet moves your life changes in direct relation to it,
you’ll realize that in reality you have no free will whatsoever.

That’s because the planets will be where they will be. And whether you like it or not
you can’t just reach out and stop them in their path.

What about our decisions and improving our lives?

Well, Astrology and the fact that everything is already done doesn’t say that we won’t
be able to have any say in what goes on, because we do. Astrology and fate just show
quite clearly that the outcome of our decisions will always be what they are.

This of course leaves me open to the criticism that I am being ‘fatalist’. But I don’t
see this as a criticism.

I have spent much time considering the significance of my views in this area. At first
I thought how bad it was because I thought I couldn’t do or be anything I wanted to
be. But then I soon realized that it didn’t mean that at all. It means that I can do what
I like, but whatever it is I do or be would have happened anyway. Moreover we shall
all eventually become exactly what we want to be, which is complete and total unity –
‘God’, if you like.

But this view doesn’t mean that I will just lie down and go to sleep and do nothing.
That’s because I don’t actually want to do that, nor do I have the inclination to do so.
In fact I find the whole idea that everything is already done very liberating. It’s also
quite relaxing to know that we don’t create, creation happens to us. That is, we’re
given what’s right whatever it is and all we have to do is watch the show. Rather like
Plato’s shadows on the wall.

It’s rather like a roller coaster ride. There’s no choice where to go, but it’s bloody
good fun as long as we don’t keep putting the breaks on or try to derail it and go
somewhere else.

Once we get our heads around this we’ll find that things come so much easier.
 How to get going with
Astrology

One of the reasons I learned so much about Astrology was because I wanted to know
so much about myself and how I am indelibly part of all that surrounds me.

This could well be the case for you.

If that’s so, what I suggest is the following:

1. Get your chart done accurately. For this make sure you have accurate time date
and place, because a chart just 5 minutes out could cause considerable error.
Remember – it only takes a split second for a planet to change signs. You can buy
some very inexpensive software that will give you your chart in a second.
Alternatively go to www.solarfire.com and you get your chart done there. If that’s
impossible, just mail me at david@davidcammegh.com and I’ll do one for you – but
only as a last resort, mind.
2. Once you have your chart, get yourself a very basic book on Astrology so you can
see how the chart is broken down into planets, signs and houses. Also get familiar
with all the symbols. You can get these basic books from Amazon.com or in any
good bookshop.
3. Take a look at what it means if the Venus in your chart is in a particular sign, and
for all planets in all signs. This is fun as you see yourself unravel.
4. Also see what planets are in what houses. Read up on that.
5. You’ll soon begin to get the hang of it. Once it begins to make sense, which it
should do within a very short time, I suggest you purchase the following books:

Liz Greene – Astrology of Fate

Liz Greene – Astrology for Lovers
Stephen Arroyo – Karma and Transformation

For me these books were absolutely fascinating and it was fun always having my
chart with me so I could add layers of meaning to it whenever something relevant
came up. In not a very long time I was becoming more and more familiar with my
potentials.

I have to say, though, that I didn’t get carried away and I always kept a fair measure
of skepticism.

I was also very honest with myself. There were things I didn’t like too much, you see,
and there were things I liked a bit too much. I just tried to keep it all in perspective.

Most of all I kept it clear in my mind that no book is 100% accurate – they are all
interpretations. So, I didn’t just abjectly follow the books. I always read around the
subject to get a feel for the meaning of my chart, or an understanding of it, rather than
a literal quotation.

By the way, if you want to do the Hororary Astrology and find specific answers to
questions, you’ll have to take a very different approach, which is not so much about
feel, but accuracy and rules and a hell of a lot of hard work.

For Hororary Astrology, William Lilly’s book, Christian Astrology is very good – very
old language, but good all the same. It was written in the 17th century.
William Lilly was one of the greatest Astrologers of all time and it’s worth noting that
he never considered himself to be a master of the subject. He acknowledged that
Astrology was so vast that he could only ever be a student.

On that humble and wonderful note, I shall end this little booklet.
