A. ESSAY

1. Explain the relationship of tourism and hospitality.


 Hospitality and Tourism go hand and hand, Tourism is the activity by
the Tourist where they engage in travelling to destinations where they
want to experience recreational and leisure activities. While the
Hospitality offers services like accommodation, transportation, food and
beverage, recreation and leisure. Therefore, Hospitality and Tourism
Industry has a strong relationship.
2. Discuss the importance of tourism and hospitality.
 Tourism is one of the important industry in the world because Tourism
contribute more economic activities and it also generates more
employment, revenues and play significant role in development.
Hospitality is also one of the Industry who generates revenue for local
economies especially when tourist spend money in hotels, restaurants
and entertainment venues.
3. Explain the contributions of the Sumerians to the development of the hospitality
industry.
 The Sumerians has a record in the History of Tourism. Sumerians
inhabited Mesopotamia, the farmers were eventually able to produce
so much grain, until they learned to convert the Grains into beverages
(beers). Then local Sumerians served various beers and provided a
gathering place for local residents.
4. Why did the business of inn keeping disappear during the Dark Ages?
 Great famine during the 14th century, as well as the spread of diseases
during this time caused Inn keeping to disappear during the Dark Ages.
Another reason is because of the Europeans and Muslims of the Arab
conflicts.
5. How tourism and hospitality dollar are spent based from the picture below?

 Based from the given picture, tourism and hospitality dollars are spent
through person’s day to day life cycle. People earn money for everyday
use and everyday peoples tend to travel and when traveling they eat,
find a place for comfort and many more. Because of this, money is
spent from transportation (car rental fees, oil, and other transport
services), accommodations (hotels, inns, campgrounds, and so on),
food and other commodities, shopping, miscellaneous, hospital fees,
taxes, debt, entertainment, sport, as well as recreations.

6. Explain the scope and relationship of tourism and hospitality industry based from
the picture below?
 Both Hospitality and Tourism go hand and hand for a wide range of
commercial activities. Example, the tourism industry supports a
traveler’s need for transportation, food, lodging, amusement and
entertainment and it involves tour operators, rental cars, theme parks
and attractions. The Hospitality Industry consist of lodging, food
services, and recreational activities.

7. How important star rating is for tourism and hospitality establishment?


 Star rating is important in tourism and hospitality establishment
because, it is a quick way for customer and travel agencies to assess if
that establishment is worth it or not. Star ratings can tell customers
about the quality and amenities of the hotel so they can choose
whether to book or not.
8. Explain the rating and accreditation system of tourism and hospitality
establishment in the Philippines based from RA 9593 or the Tourism Act of
2009?

B. PROJECT

1. Compile a picture of the first hotel that was built in the world up to present
and categorized its rating systems from then up to now.
2. Make your dream hotel using indigenous materials that is locally available in
your area. (eg. Popsicle Stick or Match Stick) and write the description of your
hotel.

VII. ASSIGNMENT (Asynchronous Assessment)

1. Research on the origin of tourism and hospitality industry in the Philippines.


 Tourism in the Philippines traces its origins during the ancient times
when first set of people chose to migrate through land bridges, followed
by the other sets of migrations from the Malayan Archipelago in the
south and Taiwan in the north.
The tourism industry first truly flourished during the late 19 th to early
20th century due to the influx of immigrants from Europe and the United
States. Tit was listed as one of the best countries in Asia aside from
Hong Kong and Japan. The Tourism declined during after world war II,
leaving the country with completely devastated economy, and a
landscape filled with destroyed heritage town. The second wave of
Tourist influx flourished in 1950’s but declined drastically during the
dictatorship.
The Tourism Industry flourished again for the third time at the early
part of the 2010 under the “IT’S MORE FUN IN TH EPHILIPPINES”
slogan. Which was widely regarded as an international success,
gaining international media attention.
2. Research on the star rating of Hospitality and tourism establishment in the
Philippines and explain why they have that star rating only.
 Philippines star rating for Hospitality and Tourism Establishments start
from 1 star to 5 star some Hospitality and Tourism Establishment in the
Philippines has different star rating that means some of them meet the
qualifications for having that star rating.
