Tayler Perry - brief proposal

Climate Change – Polar Ice Caps

For my project on climate change, I am going to explore the melting of the polar
ice caps and how it affects the ecosystem of the animals that inhabit Antarctica.
The melting polar ice caps are a huge issue that could potentially cause a
number of natural disasters such as flooding and the rise in sea level. Increases
in greenhouse gas emissions are a massive contribution as to why our climate is
changing, thus causing the ice caps to melt.

Greenhouse gases are affecting the earth’s atmosphere, and how the sun is
projected. I will look into how much greenhouse emissions we give off, and how
much is contributed to the melting of the polar ice caps, and to the destruction of
the earth.

Research will mainly revolve around the lifestyle of the ecosystem of Antarctica
(including polar bears, seals, killer whales etc) and how the change in the climate
affects their way of living, as well as looking at our own lifestyle and ecosystem
to compare the two. I am also going to research and experiment with different
types of media such as information graphics, painting, drawing and typography
to hopefully produce a successful mixed media piece.

I want to stray away from the computer as much as I can with this project as I
have heavily relied on it in past projects, but I will still need it at some point for
editing. This is why I have chosen to include painting/drawing into the mix with
information graphics/typography. I want the final piece to come across as
something that will draw your attention to it, and make you look twice. Two
opposite and contradicting ideas coming together will intrigue the viewer, and
interest them, which is what I always aim to do with my art work.

I will test and experiment with watercolour, acrylic and gouache paints (possibly
mixing some) to see which will have the best result for my final piece, also
determining which paints I find most comfortable to use.

As well as this being an information graphic based piece of work, I will be looking
into and researching surrealism to influence my painting/drawing that I am going
to produce. The final piece will be printed on A3 cartridge paper to give it that
finished edge of quality, but I may also have access to an A1 printer, so that is
also an option if I am able to use it.

I will be constantly annotating and evaluating my ideas and research as I

progress through my project, and at the end, write up a complete overview of
the project as a whole. I am going to be as honest as possible with what I feel I
have achieved, and may not have achieved during this project.
