Publication Notice
A new fresh rendition of the New Testament is to be published as an online serial under the title of Read I.R.E.N.T., as a work-in-progress, in Adobe PDF file format, accessible freely through the web. It strives for clarity in living everyday English, staying away from the style of the traditional Biblical English in use in most of conventional translations and in church talk. The title I.R.E.N.T., chosen for the translation text work itself, is an acronym for Invitation to Reading in English New Testament.

This issue is Readers Edition of I.R.E.N.T. Vol.1, No. 1, Gospel of John (as most commonly called) in English with the footnotes. All the Endnotes are found in the Study Ready Edition - Endnotes to be used along with the Study Ready Edition Text.

when the Judean authorities sent {to him} from Yerusalem a [a formal deputation of] kohanim and Levites to question him, <You, who are you supposed to be?>: he spoke out openly to make the fact clear, and did not refuse to give a clear answer Yes, he did speak out openly,
replying with this in his own words: I myself am not the very Mashiah [yo people have been eagerly waiting for].

And they asked him, What then? You, you are supposed to be Eliyahu [to come again][Mal 4:5]? And he said, Of course Im not.

standing with two of his own disciples b; and, observing Yeshua who was walking by, he exclaims again, Look, there, the very Lamb of Elohim! [v. 29] And Yohanans own two disciples, hearing him say this, went off to follow Yeshua. When, Yeshua, on having turned around, saw them following, he asked them, What is it that yo are looking for? And they said to him, Rabbi c we wish to know where you are staying. ((which says, as interpreted, teacher d))[Cf. 20:16]

to seek out his own brother Shimon; and came upon him, Andrew said

As to Yeshua it denotes His unique relation to God. It is also a title for the Messiah of YHWH. Weve finally found the [long-awaited] MASHIAH! a ((which is translated as anointed one.)) b and then took him to Yeshua. Giving an attentive look at him, Yeshua said, So, [its] you, you must be Shimon, the son of Yohan c {/mss}! As for you, you shall be called KEFA d! ((which is translated as Peter#4 [in Greek, meaning 'stone pebble'].))

And coming upon Philip, Yeshua says to him, Be a follower of me!

Philip then finds Nathanael and tells him, The one Moshe wrote about in the books of the Law and the Nebiim e were sure we have found him! Its Yeshua ben-Yosef from Nazareth! And Nathanael asked him, You say, from Nazareth? Can any good come out of [a small town] like that?! Philip says to him, Come with me [at once] and see yourself!

Can it be that the ruling authorities have actually come to acknowledge that this man is the very Mashiah?
But surely not! We well know where this man is from. Yet, when the very Mashiah comes, no one is to know where he is from.

Good shepherd; Gate for sheep

Yes, indeed! I say to yo, anyone who enters the sheepfold not through the gate, instead, climbs up to get in by some-another-way that one is nothing but a thief and a rustler. But the One who enters it through the gate is the very shepherd who tends the sheep. It is to him the gatekeeper opens it. and as to the sheep they are attentive to the voice of the shepherd, and his very own sheep he calls by name and leads them out. And when he brings them all outside his very own sheep, at the head of them He walks and the sheep follow him: because they know and recognize the voice of him. And as for a stranger, they never would follow, but will flee from him because they dont know the voice, if it belongs to someone else. If anyone ever enters through me they shall find it safe there and cared for; and can securely come in and go out and find pasture. As for the thief, he comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy: [Jer 23:1-4; cf. Jer 3:15] I have come in order that they may have Life yes, they may have it to overflow I, yes I, am the goodshepherd: [Ps 23:1]: As the good shepherd He does lays down His soul [on His own will] on behalf of the sheep. Ezk 34:11] But as for the hired one he is not really a shepherd and the sheep are not his own deserts the sheep, when he sees the wolf coming after them, and runs away; and the wolf attacks them to carry off and scatters {the whole sheep}. {The hired one runs away} because he is no more than a hired one and has no care for the sheep.

Now it should be seen that Yeshua was loving [+ with self-giving love] Martha and her sister, yes, Lazarus! Yet, after he heard that Lazarus was ill, he actually remained for another two days in the same place where he was.[10:40] Then, after this he said to the disciples, Lets go up into Judea again. The disciples said to him, Rabbi Just lately the Judean authorities was there seeking to stone you [putting to death], and do you want to go back there again? Yeshua answered, Are there not twelve hour-periods in day-time every day? If anyone walks in the daylight, they+ do not stumble, because they can see by the light in this world. But if anyone walks around in the night, they do stumble, because they have no light for them. These things were what he spoke. Afterwards he is saying to them, Our friend Lazarus has laid down to rest; but I am going to wake him from sleep. Thus the disciples said to him, If he is just laid down to rest, hell surely get well then. Isnt that right, Master? ((Actually Yeshua had spoken about Lazarus death: but they on their part thought he was talking about literally taking rest in sleep.))
