The Gardener and The Bear
One day, in the eastern part of Persia there
lived at one time a gardener whose one joy in life
was his flowers and fruit trees. He had neither
wife, nor children, nor friends; nothing except his
garden. At length, however, the good man
wearied of having no one to talk. He decided to go
out into the world and find a friend. Scarcely was
he outside the garden before he came face to
face with a bear, who like the gardener, was
looking for a companion. Immediately a great
friendship sprang up between these two.
The gardener invited the bear to come into
his garden, and fed him on quinces and melons.
In return for this kindness, when the gardener lay
down to take his afternoon nap, the bear stood by
and drove off the flies.
One afternoon it happened that unusually
large fly alighted on the gardener’s nose. The
bear drove it off, but it only flew to the gardener’s
chin. Again the bear drove it away, but in a few
moments it was back once more on the
gardener’s nose. The bear now was filled with
rage. With no thought beyond that of punishing
the fly, he seized a huge of stone, and hurled it
with such force at the gardener’s nose that he
killed not only the fly, but the sleeping gardener.

HOW TO OPERATE A MICROWAVE OVEN
Step 1
Open microwave door (depending on the style
you may have to pull handle or push a button to
open). Do not set oven for excessive cook times.

Lavender
The name lavender comes from the Latin root
lavare, which means “to wash.” Lavender may
have earned this name because in the past
people used it to bath with. Now, lavender is a
common ingredient in sachets of scenting clothes,
soaps, and shampoos.
This flower is originally from the mountainous
zones of the Mediterranean. It grows well in sunny
and stony environments. Today, we can find the
flower throughout southern Europe, Australia, the
United States, and Indonesia.
Lavender is a heavily branched short shrub. It
can grow up to 60 centimeters. Its broad rootstock
bears woody branches with upright, rod like, leafy,
green shoots. A silvery down covers the gray-
green narrow leaves, which are oblong and
tapered, attached directly at the base, and curled
spirally. The flowers are arranged in spirals of 6 to
10 blossoms.
Essential oil is extracted from the fresh
flowers of the lavender plant and used for
medicinal purposes. It has been used as a
remedy for a range of ailments from insomnia and
anxiety to depression and fatigue. Research has
confirmed that lavender produces slight soothing,
calming and sedative effect when its scent is
inhaled.
