OVERVIEW
• This section consists of 5 reading
passages followed by 50 questions.

• The topics are varied, but they are

often informational subjects that might
be studied in American university:
American history, literature, art,
architecture, geology, etc.

• You will be given 55 minutes to

answer all questions.
QUESTION TYPES Reading Comprehension
Questions about information in the passages.
There will be a variety of questions in the reading passages. (main idea
questions, directly answered detail questions, and implied detail questions)

Vocabulary
Asks about the meanings of vocabulary words in the passages.
You can answer these questions by looking at the context of given
passages.

BE FAMILIAR WITH THE DIRECTIONS.

TOEFL test are the same,.
GENERAL STRATEGIES
DO NOT SPEND TOO MUCH TIME DO NOT WORRY IF THE TOPIC IS

 QUESTIONS ABOUT THE IDEAS OF THE PASSAGE
In this type of question, you have to be able
to draw a conclusion about the overall ideas
of the passage.

Sometimes, you will also be asked to

determine the organization between each
paragraph.
 STRATEGIES

Skim the reading passages to

determine the main idea and the
overall organization of the ideas in
the passage.

Look ahead at the questions to determine

what types of questions you must answer.

Find section of the passage that

deals with each question.
 DIRECTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
In this type of question, the answers are
stated in the passage. Hence, you do not
have to draw a conclusion.

Sometimes, you are asked to choose

statement/ information that is not stated
nor mentioned nor discussed in the
passage.

Another questions will ask you to refer a

pronoun to which noun.
 INDIRECTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
In this type of question, the answers are
not directly stated in the passage. To
answer this question, you have to draw
conclusions.

Sometimes, you are asked to determine

what probably came before the reading
passage (preceding paragraph) or after the
reading passage (following paragraph).
 VOCABULARY QUESTIONS
It is helpful if you know the meaning of the
words tested in this type of question.
However, it is not always necessary., since
you can find the meaning from the context.

Moreover, you can try to guess the

meaning from word parts.
e.g.: misspelled, miss= incorrect. Therefore,
misspelled= incorrectly written.
