POLICY TITLE: Transfer of Student Credits From Non- POLICY NO:

Accredited Institutions and/or Home 607.00

Schools PAGE 1 of 2
Minidoka County Joint School District # 331

Minico High School will grant credit to students transferring from a non-accredited institution or
home school under the following circumstances.

• Students will take an end-of-course assessment or exit exam for the class in which they
wish to receive credit. Students must successfully complete the end-of course assessment
at the same proficiency level required of students completing the class at Minico High
School.

• Credit will be given only for core academic classes classified as required for grades 9 and
10. No credit will be given for classes required of students in grades 11 or 12.

• For classes not identified as grade specific, students may be awarded credit for no more
than 2 years (4 credits) of a course sequence.

• Students may earn no more than four (4) credits in any subject area as a result of credit by
examination.

• In cases in which classes are part of a sequence of classes, the student must pass the next
class in the sequence with a grade of 70% or better for credit to be awarded for the
previous class in the sequence (for example: a student wishing credit for English 10B
must successfully complete English 11A at 70% proficiency before credit will be granted
for English 10B).

• No letter grade will be assigned for courses taken from a non-accredited institution.
Students will be assigned a grade of “P” for those courses.

• Students will be classified as a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior based on the total

number of credits awarded. The same standard will apply as for students currently
attending Minico High School. Under no circumstances will a student be classified as a
senior when entering Minico High School from a non-accredited institution. Grade-level
classification will be in accordance with the Promotion and Retention Policy of the
Minidoka County Joint School District #331 (Policy #: 605.33).

• Students currently attending Minico High School who have taken courses from a non-
accredited institution may petition for credit for those courses on a case-by-case basis.
Successful completion of the next course in a sequence may be considered when
determining whether credit will be awarded. With approval of school administration,
successful completion of the next course in a sequence may be substituted for completing
the end-of-course assessment or exit exam. Only students currently attending Minico
High School at the implementation of this policy will be given this option. Successful
completion of a course is defined as 70% proficiency.
