1.

The subject & objective you have selected.

The subject that I have decided to base my lesson plan on is History.

To encourage students to apply the comprehension of their own culture and to analyze the

culture of their classmates.

2.  The grade level: 4

3. The multicultural goal & objective for you multicultural lesson plan.

Multicultural goal: Promote positive gender, racial, cultural, class and

individual identities.

Subject Observable  Objective: To encourage students to apply the comprehension of their own

culture and to analyze the culture of their classmates.

4.  Brief summary of the activity.

The activity that I have planned for my lesson plan is to have my students think of the way that

they feel their culture is represented in history. The students will then be asked to write a brief

paragraph on this. I will then engage the classroom in discussion and ask what they wrote. After

the discussion is had, I will proceed to lecture. I will then explain to the class how it is important

to be proud of where you come from and the importance of learning about other cultures as well.

This activity is meant to be educational for all the students in the classroom. They will have the

chance to talk about their own culture and hear how their classmate’s culture is the same or

different.
1.  Lesson Objectives:

Subject observable objective: To encourage students to apply the comprehension of their own

culture and to analyze the culture of their classmates.

Multicultural goal: Promote positive gender, racial, cultural, class and

individual identities.

2. All Lesson Materials: Wide ruled paper, pencils, whiteboard, erasers, history textbook and

markers

Include all materials with the lesson activity assignment.

3.  Instruction- learning Process:  Create a detailed outline of the multicultural

activity following the teaching design below:

Do First: (5 minutes.)-

To start off the lecture I will first talk to the students. Ask them how they are doing and ask

about any interesting activities that they have planned for their weekends.  I will then begin to

talk about my own cultural background and I would talk about the way that I see it portrayed in

history.

Mini-lesson: (15 minutes)-

My mini lesson will be talking about the different cultures that are talked about in our history

book. I will talk about the different ways that they are different. Then explain that just because

cultures differ, doesn’t mean that one is better than another. That we should embrace learning

about all cultures.

Guided Practice:(10 minutes)-

For my guided practice I will have the students writing on a piece of paper how they view their

own culture. I will instruct them to write about the things they appreciate about their culture. If

they can, then write about how they feel they are portrayed in history.

Independent Practice:(15 min.)-

I will then leave them without my instruction so they can work on the activity. I will be available

to students that still have questions but this section of the lecture is dedicated for the students to

really think about their culture and to display that knowledge.

Exit Slip:(5 minutes)-

As an exit ticket the students will be turning in the activity. We will also give this an opportunity

for students to share their thoughts and feelings if they so choose to.

4.  All Resources:

 Baruth, L. G., & Manning, M. L. (1992). Multicultural education of children and

adolescents. Boston: Allyn and Bacon.

List all resources used in the multicultural lesson plan in APA format.

5.  Reflection:

The subject that was taught about in this lesson plan was history. Students were taught to

comprehend cultural history and norms about their own culture. They were then asked to apply

this comprehension to analyze the cultures of their classmates.

By the end of this lesson plan students were able to comprehend, analyze, and became more open

about different cultures.

The level of student engagement during this lesson plan was high. Given the subject of the lesson

plan, the students were able to participate highly in our open classroom environment.
The strengths of this lesson plan includes improved comprehension of multiple cultures, ability

to analyze different cultures, exposure to different cultures, and students finding appreciation for

their own culture. Some weaknesses of the lesson plan includes students hesitating to participate

at first and some students not knowing much about their own culture.
