LESSON 3: SHORT STORY

Look at the collage of pictures. What do the pictures tell you? In no more five sentences,
express your ideas about the pictures.

These pictures is all about the sacrifices of teachers that are being extend just to give
his/her students a good quality of education. Teaching is truly a noble profession, the teacher’s
dedication and sacrifices to teach the learners no matter what the conditions, would be present
forever. A teacher is someone who loves adventure, they are called as hero who never gets tired
of teaching things as long as they can see their students learning. Their patience and hardworks
are all that matter, they endure everything just to see their students growing with knowledge and
discipline. All of these challenges and tiredness will paved away once they see their student’s
happy faces, as they start molding their futures.

LET‟S DO IT!

2. What preparations were made by Pugad Lawin High School for the visitation of
the gods? Why were the school official treated like gods?

As preparation for the visitation of supervisors and superintendents, the teachers

made efforts in having school beautification through borowing bougainvella plants from
neighbors , prepared delicious food, procure the beddings so that the visitors will have a
comfortable sleep, and made school structuring to fill the plain white walls. And to make
sure that they can satisfy the visitors, they prepare a tango dancers and faked the
educational system through rehearsing students to recite and have some sort of codes to
participate in recitations. In short, they prepare the students to pretend that they are all
prepared for the said evaluation. They made this kind of preparations because the school
is aiming for higher effeciency ratings from the superintendets and supervisors. And they
believed that this kind of preparations would impress them and may be one of the reasons
to get high ratings. Sadly, it seems like what matters the most is not how well the teacher
teaches but how well one has learned the art of pleasing others.

2. What do the following lines means?

a. It means that Ms. Noel still admire those people who are trust worthy and
dedicated on his work without expecting something in return. If being strict, is to
change someone’s perception of education in a right way, then she would rather
bow her head. Mr. Sawit’s thoughts is that to enable reach the success, you must
work in effortless manner and let your art of pleasing work everything. And that
is the biggest mistake of our educational system that is very hard to conquer as
long as there are still toxic people in the highest rank.

b. These lines mean that what matters the most is not how well you teach, but it is all
about pleasing powers. It’s a sad reality that still happening in our society
today, there are still difficulties in providing one’s interest and motivation in
improving the standards of education. There’s always a competition to get the
position, instead of being united and be truthful with the service. It would seem
that the only way a person can be on top is through climbing the bureaucratic
ladder and allow himself to be swallowed by the bias educational system. Those
who works hard and truthful for their works getting up nothing and having
nothing.

c. It means that the supervisors or even the superintendents already know all of the
fake scenarios and pretentions of the educational systems but still acting like they

are not aware. These scenarios just made our education system became worst,
instead of correcting what is wrong, it just so sad that people on the highest rank
are the ones who strengthen this kind of malpractices.

d. This time, Ms. Noel realized that her student’s futures are in her hands. If others
get the high position in a wrong way, she then will not allow herself to be
engaged with this practices. Those who dedicate and sacrifice their lives for the
good of students, are also expecting for the future of the country. In the end, it is
always the children who will suffer and the country will taste the products of their
mistakes if she will follow the perceptions of Mr. Sawit. Ms. Noel just showed us
the characteristics of a compassionate and dedicated teacher who have the chance
to change the wrong practices in running the educational systems. Having a
teacher like her just give me a big hope to have a good standard of education in
our country.

“ Let it Go”

“You‟re on the list, you did it”

I was stuck between waters and mountains,

As I hear those heart trembling announcements

Standing like a stone, staring like a moon covered with the storms

The stars are twinkling,

But raindrops started to fall as the skies filled with darkness

The leaves I used to collect

Slowly flowing in the rivers away from my presence

Shall I follow where it goes?

Or just let it flow „til the rain will stop?

For the sun will soon to rise and show it‟s light so nice

In the midst of these darkest nights

I wanted to treat, not to teach

But the decisions I have made, now teaching little hands with brightest dreams

I let go the leaves, but now harvested fruits so sweet

This is me now, an aspiring doctor

Who now became a teacher with all compassion!
