Catholic - a Christian who believes in the authority of the Pope, the importance of the saints, and in
the original definition of Christianity as it was passed down from the early Roman Church

Civil Rights - a class of rights and freedoms that protect individuals from unjust action by
government and/or private organizations/individuals which ensure one's ability to participate
in the public and political life of the state without discrimination or being oppressed

Critical analysis - the process of dividing into sub-parts and analyzing another's claims to consider:
what concepts (ideas) they are based on (true or false or uncertain); how far they agree with
the available evidence; and how logical the structure of the argument used to present them
is.

Culpable - meriting condemnation or blame especially as wrong or harmful

Determinism – some characteristic in society, the economy, politics, or the like that leads the flow
of history to happen in a particular way

Freedom Fighter - a person who takes part in a resistance movement against an oppressive political
or social establishment

Historiography - a : the writing of history; especially : the writing of history based on the critical
examination of sources, the selection of particulars from the authentic materials, and the
synthesis of particulars into a narrative that will stand the test of critical methods b : the
principles, theory, and history of historical writing

History - a chronological record of significant events (as affecting a nation or institution) often
including an explanation of their causes

IRA – A terrorist organization which aimed to throw the British out of any part of Ireland

Just - a (1) : acting or being in agreement with what is morally upright or good : righteous (2) :
deserved b : legally correct : lawful

Oppression - unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power

Pragmatic - Practical, concerned with making decisions and actions that are useful in practice, not
just in theory or according to idealistic beliefs

Protestant - a Christian who follows neither the Catholic Church nor the Eastern Orthodox Church;
Christians who generally find a direct faith in God and personal interpretation of the Bible to
be more important as guides than the traditional religious hierarchy of the Roman Church
(e.g. the Pope and the Saints)

Terrorist – a person who uses violence against targets not considered acceptable military targets, or
who commits horrific acts which fall outside of the acceptable customs of war, in order to
bring about a desired social or political end
