REFLECTIVE ESSAY

PPISMP Semester 2 TESL students were assigned a task on 10th February 2021 which
is we have to manage a Language Camp for our seniors, PISMP Semester 2 TESL students. In
group of three, we were required to make a proposal on three activities and then every group
will have to choose only one activity out of all three activities they had plan to be carried out on
the day of event. Group 4 consist of NurZahirah Dinah, Rabiatul Adawiyah and me, Alya
Nazirah had faced a few struggles while preparing the Language Camp in order for the event to
succeed.

After the briefing with the lecturers, groups of three were formed swiftly and discussion
for the activities to be carried out during the Language Camp started. Each group were strictly
required by the lecturers to come up with different activities and prepare a proposal consist of all
three of them which was a nerve wrecking for group 4. The members were anxious while
figuring out what activities they were going to choose and making sure it was not a common
activity in order to avoid carrying out the same activity as any other groups. Most importantly,
the activities must be suitable considering the seniors, PISMP semester 2 TESL will be joining
the Language Camp as participants. After the group decided to choose Charades, Finish the
Lyrics and 4 Lies and 1 Truth, all groups were required to get the lecturer’s approval. Some of
the group’s idea were given advices and a few improvements were necessary for example, 4
Lies and 1 Truth needed to be altered in order to focus on learning English like grammar instead
of pointless random statements. Other than that, the lecturer approved all the activities which
brought a smile of relief on each face of all the members of Group 4. They continued to make
improvements to perfect their activities.

A meeting was held between 2.10 and 2.11 students with the lecturers to determine
each groups’ activity for the Language Camp. 4 Lies and 1 Truth were chosen by Group 4 as
their activity and fortunately it gained approval from both lecturers. They started to make a more
thorough plan for the activity to be carried out on the day of the event and prepared a
demonstration sample for the lecturer to try few days before. However, the group faced minor
complication, the questions were not shown because they had the incorrect setting. The lecturer
brushed it off with advices and asked them to make sure to get the correct setting. At the end of
the activity’s demonstration, all group were required to put all instructions on Google Classroom
carefully. They immediately corrected the setting and tried it among themselves and thankfully
the activity was a success. Although they were swarmed with other assignments, the group
members successfully managed their time to prepare the activity for the Language Camp. They
were happy to complete the preparation despite the exhaustion.

On the day of the Language Camp, since Group 4 used Kahoot as their platform to carry
out their activity, all the members simply waited for the seniors to join the Google Classroom
and started participating on each station. They were excited and anxious for the first group to
join their activity. Mainly excited because they finally carrying out the game they had planned
and anxious because of the possibility for the participants to face any sudden complications
while playing the game. All members waited the whole two hours, from 3 pm to 5 pm, and
thankfully the participants did not have any complications.

In conclusion, Group 4’s activity and the Language Camp were a major success despite
being held online. If they were given another opportunity to handle an event in the future, the
members will gladly participate and wanted to manage more fun and beneficial activities.
