THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Without Faith we are Blind
My Lord, further to your inquiry into the matter of the Riebelin Conclave Incident, I have
attached the following document penned by the great Magos Genetor Gregor Vendel (with
notes by my self) following his exploratory vivisection of the xenos in question.
The circumstances under which the incident occurred are still under explicator review, and
the guard contingent chastised for their lapse in protocol. The Inquisitor in question,
esteemed master Korlest Phaj, is currently undergoing thorough mind-purification with our
best psyko-therapists, but it is feared the taint runs too deep. The sudden withdrawal
of the parasite’s contaminating presence had an instant and destructive effect on his
psyche. It is obvious these creatures damage their host purposefully to sow discord
amongst their hunters so that they may escape and sink their filthy mindhooks into another
unsuspecting victim. It is the work of the Emperor indeed that Hereticus Lord Soltemere’s
ship exited warp space six hours ahead of schedule – without the presence of his null
hound, uncovering the leech would have been nigh impossible, let alone capturing it for
examination.
Despite its diminutive size, the creature was able to elude even our sensorum servo skulls
for almost half an hour. Its unusual locomotory method gave it an amazing turn of speed,
and in keeping with its unclean behaviour, it was adept at remaining hidden even without
its blasphemous leech powers. Adept Senioris Brhos eventually cornered the creature
after calculating its movement patterns for several minutes. This revealed a secondary
defence mechanism whereby the xenos generated a powerful electrical charge. The Adept
(one of Lady Alneme’s longest serving acolytes, he was close to 200 years old) suffered a
terminal cardiac infarction due to the shock. Fortunately for us the charge damaged the
machine spirit in Brhos’ augmetic hand, causing the fingers to clench reflexively together,
crushing the xenos parasite.
Quarantine level gamma-phi was enacted immediately and all ancillary staff rigorously scanned
for secondary infections. The specimen was placed within a null box for transportation to
the genecopia for study and dissection under the watchful eye of Lord Soltemere and his
null hound. As of the present no other Inquisitorial personnel have been found infected
by these parasites, but their very nature makes uncovering their presence difficult at
best. The only real indicator of master Phaj’s parasitism was an almost compulsive need
to question things, in some instances, things he himself had done. It appeared as though
the xenos was attempting to learn our secrets by manipulating its puppet to delve into
matters it didn’t understand. It asked questions about the very nature of the Inquisition
itself, its methods and its ultimate purpose. Master Phaj, as an experienced inquisitor
of some fifty years, had an intrinsic understanding of his purpose within the Imperium,
but the xenos seemed incapable of understanding this even with access to Phaj’s memories.
It required further input around the subject, requiring a context to place it.
Since the incident, I have re-examined several instances of spontaneous insurrection put
down by our order in the last three hundred years. In light of this creature’s ability,
a proportion of these aberrations may actually be reassigned as Xenos Machinatus.
Hopefully this information will be of use in your investigations, and allow you to free
the Imperium of this unclean xenos scourge.
Yours in Faith,

VIVISECTION REPORT

SUBJECT: Impus infuriatus

AGE: ?15 GENDER: Male

Vivisection conducted by Magos Genetor Gregor Vendel

ATTENDING: Hound, Null BM#3243-2a; Servitor Chirurgius 453945663643-3353/23
DATE: 238.M35

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS:
Specimen arrived in a damaged state due to trauma upon capture [caused by the late
Adept Brhos’ augmetic hand] escorted by Lord Soltemere and his null hound. Specimen was
diminutive in size, no longer than 20 centimetres (may reach 30 cm standing erect). Right
medial limb presented extensive bone fragmentation and dermis laceration whilst dorsal
lumbar sail spines (5 & 6) broken completely (additional membrane damage also present). When
revived in containment cell specimen immediately moved to rear right corner, attempting
to conceal itself behind the ablution receptacle situated there. Atmospheric monitoring
indicated a substantial increase in respiration, consistent with a distressed state. Moving
the null hound six metres from the cell reduced specimen anxiety and allowed reactivation
of psionic camouflage (capable of baffling cell augers). Communication yielded little,
creature too distraught and in pain to reply. Due to circumstances surrounding specimen
capture [master Phaj], Lord Soltemere has ordered the anatomical study performed pre-
mortem.
After behavioural observation for fifty two minutes specimen paralysed with controlled dose
of N. hilar 0.05μl and collected for vivisection.

Specimen’s pain threshold relatively high exceeding 135 kilospasms during sequential
amputation (Spec: vestigial restitupodal capacity allows neural deconnection). Outward
signs and vocalisations of pain only appeared when subject received cranial sensor-
ectomy (due to minute size of specimen, this delicate procedure was undertaken over a one
hour period [a fitting although inadequate punishment for such a heinous crime])
indicating highly innervated sensory organs beyond that seen in other higher vertebrates.

{Figure 1}

a. Hexapodal skeletal structure. Enables multiple perambulatory modes (see Fig.3). Hyper
flexible cartilage-analogous vertebra allows complete freedom of movement and 360
degree limb rotation at trunk joint.
b. Primary Thorax. Reinforced cartilage plates support musculature. Elongation of torso
allows expanded respiro-pulmonary system (Spec: specimen capable of quick bursts of
speed and highly developed reflexes); entire primary chest cavity given over to these
functions.
c. Secondary Thorax. Digestive and reproductive systems contained within. Oesophageal
tract extends through upper torso to reach secondary thorax and primary digestion
(Spec: thickness and rigidity of oesophagus tissues suggest pre-digestion during
peristalsis). Terminal excretion occurs anterior to thepelvis, an unusual feature
most likely a result of the hexapodal nature of the body. Reproductive organs external
(anterior of the anus) forming a hollow tube (Spec: spermatophore production in place
of mechanical internal fertilisation).
d. Limb Structure. Ball and socket joint attachment allows great flexibility and angular
force. Secondary limbs capable of perambulation and manipulation depending on
circumstances. Enlarged manus, pesomanus, and pes exhibit elongate grasping digits
with spatulate tips (see Detail I).

Detail I: Magnified left manus. Palm and digits present a convoluted setae (auger scans
indicate ~600,000 per digit) system (each evincing 500-1500 spatulae) analogous to Ghorid
tersi (Dusk faceripper) mandibular construction. Reduced quaternary digit appears as a
stabiliser (Spec: fine motor skills for manipulating tools?).
{Figure 2}

e. Dorsal Sail. Resting state folded down spine (appears as false tail). Basal
erectile muscle innervated via SNS allows fast erection time (0.05 seconds). During
observation sail continuously erect (Spec: evolved intimidation trait, generating
a false sense of size to confuse predators). Limited pigmentation change increases
visual effectiveness (Spec: also used as indicator of bioelectrical defence?).
f. Distal Limb. Rotation enables limb to move parallel directly beneath corpus trunk,
enabling bipedal locomotory function.

Detail II: Magnified Cranium. Profile illustrates elongated anterior skull plates, and
integral auditory organs. Multiple scalloped ridges run toward the posterior of skull.
Each ridge encloses individual auditory canals, internal anatomy indicating integral
multiple conections to cerebellum featuring differential tympania (Spec: Multi-aural
capacity; each canal specialised to specific frequencies generating a complex three
dimensional auditory awareness).
Visual receptors similarly specialised. Unusual tri-visual system, each organ is
independent of the others. In keeping with the elastic musculature of the body, facial
muscles and eyes in particular are capable of great movement. Within each eye two
independently muscled pupils allow for further visual acuity, allowing both stereoscopic
and monoscopic vision. Maximum field of vision exceeds 340 degrees, only limited by
auditory skull structure posterior to the eyes.
Olfactory cavity divided in a similar manner to the auditory system, using a trilobate
system as in the visual system. Scents are separated via specialised pores. [Aural
structure may be integral to telepath ability, suggest sonic disruption as a
countermeasure].

{Figure 3}

g. Locomotion. I. infuriatus possesses three distinct locomotory modes. When

manipulating objects the subject is capable of full bipedal motion with no
observable difficulty. When faster movement is required the pesomanus are lowered
to produce a quadrupedal gait, leaving the primary limbs free (Spec: Most common
fighting stance?). Tertiary locomotion involves an almost anguilliform lateral
undulation using the limbs in place of the spine for substrate purchase. In this
mode the specimen evinced speeds of 35 kph, quite fast for such a small animal.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS:
Highly developed senses combined with flexible light-weight body indicate a prey species
evolved to protect itself from predation. However its complicated neurology and obvious
psionic abilities indicate intelligence on par with other, more humanoid sentients.
Their powerful telepathic abilities allow them to hide in plain sight of predators, and
enable them to travel long distances by utilising large organisms (such as ourselves)
as transport. The fact that their abilities allow them to infiltrate an Inquisitorial
Conclave indicates an intelligence and maliciousness beyond that observed during
captivity.
