Criticism of the results and discussion:
This study does not present a research model, hypothesis, and an explanation of why the
variables in the study are used. The results of the study only provide an explanation of the
results of hypothesis testing without any statistical evidence that the hypothesis is rejected or
accepted. The research results are only descriptions, and there is no explanation why variable
X affects or does not affect variable Y. Researchers do not provide justification for the results
of hypothesis testing, so there is no rational reason to support the results of the research test.
This study does not provide sufficient literature review so that the research hypothesis is in
accordance with the logic of the researcher. The sub-chapter of research methods or research
results does not include the research model, how many hypotheses in this study, the
description of the variables (dependent, independent, intervening) so it is not clear which
variables are influencing and affected. The criteria for taking the research sample were not
explained at all and a list of companies was not displayed, so the reader did not know whether
the companies studied were good.
Conclusion: This paper does not provide any conclusion of the research
Research advantage: The advantages of this article are the number of variables the
researcher examines, and the location of the research samples taken. Because the research
sample is a local company, the research results can be more useful to support and advance the
local economy.
Deficient of the research: This article still has many typing errors (typos), mixed grammar
(Indonesian-English), lack of explanation of the influence of variables on the introduction,
research urgency, research novelty, variable rationalization, lack of variable influence
rationalization, explanation of variables on research methods and research models. none, the
translation of the results is lacking, there is no discussion of the results, and the citation in the
sub-chapter does not reflect the bibliography. Research

Title: ETHICS AS A FOUNDATION OF MANAGEMENT – A VALUABLE RESOURCE

OR A RELIC IN THE TIMES OF CRISIS?
Author: Joanna Hernik and Marcin Gębarowski
Journal: E-journal Gunadarma: Jurnal Ilmiah Ekonomi Bisnis Volume 16. Issue No. 3
December 2011
Purpose of the research:
To show the attitude of Polish businessmen towards carrying out their business activities to
always comply with ethics.
Research Method: This study uses a questionnaire as a tool to collect data, with the subject of
manager level employees at SME Poland. The research questionnaire contains statements
about ethics that must be filled in by managers, the following outline:
1. in general, should companies care about the environment and does your company care
about it?, 2. What does your company do to protect the environment?, 3. Should people share
with the needy?, 4. How important is ethics in business?. Beside those 4 topics, the
questionnaire also included some question about sex/gender, field works, the existence of
norms in business, and improper behaviour in business. Total sample of 410 data collected
with questionnaire and in depth interview from 410 subject.
Results and discussion:
More men become SME managers (55%) than women, by type of company: catering,
insurance, hairdressing, and construction. 7% of the respondent works in food, furniture, and
metal production field. Only 55% from the total respondent agreed that not everything is
allowed in business, and the rest 45% agreed that everything is allowed or doesn’t care about
ethics. Woman are more ethical than men, with only 5.6% declared that everything is
allowed. Among respondents who believed there were certain norms to be followed, 28% of
them could not name any (question mark in the legend). 42% of the respondent do not
concern about environment while don’t things, and the rest 58% of the respondents take steps
that can benefits the environment. As many as 95.7% women respondent display more
sensitivity towards environment than men. 51.7% of the respondent tried to take any actions
to protect the environment, while 12% of this group using modern technology, 8,8%
recycling waste, 6,6% segregating production waste, and 5,5% using biodegradable materials.
51% of the respondent agreed that they have to share what they have, with women turned out
to be more altruistic (55.3%) than men (48.6%). Total of 242 respondent agree that ethics are
important in business, and only 9.75% of total respondent said that it was unimportant.
Criticism of the results and discussion:
In the research method, it is not stated in detail how many total respondents were used in this
study. Total respondents are only written in the abstract section, but are not mentioned again
in the research methods section. The author does not provide a description of how the data
analysis was carried out, whether the study used qualitative or quantitative methods, and the
criteria for selecting subjects were not listed in detail. The researcher only mentions in
general that the respondents used are manager-level employees at SME Poland, but the other
criteria are not stated.
The discussion of research results uses citations from past research, so that the discussion has
not been able to show whether the research carried out is able to provide an overview of
current conditions or not. Research discussion is less supported by previous research, so that
the discussion is dominated by the opinion of the researcher. This makes this research
subjective and the results of the research cannot be generalized.
Conclusion: Businesspeople constitute a part of their society and therefore should obey
social norms. But it was only opinion from the manager, and not not necessarily applied by
everyone. Polish entrepreneurs are not entirely convinced that ethics is a fundamental value
in their operations. Although it is difficult to determine whether that stems from the current
economic situation.
Research advantages: This study uses questionnaires and interviews to collect research data,
thus making the data collected reliable or strong. The results of the study reflect the
importance of ethics for managers in SME Poland, and these results can be justified, because
they use interviews and questionnaires as data collection methods. Discussions are conducted
in a structured and detailed manner so that they are easy to understand.
Deficiency of the research: Total respondents were not written, the type of research was not
written, the data analysis method was not stated, the rationalization of the research location
was lacking, the rationalization of sample selection was not exist.
Title: Operation management system evaluation in the central Finland health care district -
end users' view of system implementation
Author: Kaisa Lemmetty and Eija Häyrinen
Journal: Connecting Medical Informatics and Bio-Informatics: Stud Health Technol Inform.
Volume 116, page 605-7. 2005.
Research purpose:
This paper evaluate the implementation of the operation management system changed the
practice of operation management for the surgical clinic in the Central Finland Health Care
District.
Research method: the method used in this research is a questionnaire with 48 argument
included and the alternatives were from one to five on the Likert-scale. The questionnaire
was sent as an e-form to 180 users for data collection. Responses were received from 110
participants (61%). The participants consisted of nurses 64%, doctors 15% and secretaries
21%. average values (1 poor-5 good) were calculated for usability, utility and copability.
Results and discussion: Total respondent data was 110 respondent, 15% doctors, 64%
nurses, 21% secretary. The doctors result was average 3,49 for usability, 3,10 average score
for utility, and 3.15 average score for copability. Nurses result was 2,83 average score for
usability, 2,88 average score for utility, and 3,09 average score for copability. The last was
secretary with 3,23 average score for usability, 3,24 average score for utility, and 3,14
average score for copability. The evaluation of the operation management system reveals
how the system meets practice in operation management after the implementation. The
survey revealed that staff needed further training and user support for the efficient use and
utility of the operations management system. Operations management is a process and a team
of doctors, nurses and secretaries who all have specific demands. System copability can be a
fact that requires further handling.
Criticism of the results and discussion:
In the research method the author said that there is 48 total argument about usability, utility,
and copability of the system, but the author did not write the importance of those point. The
readers should look the importance of those 3 points to the system to understand what’s the
purpose of the paper correctly. The paper does not show the importance of this research to be
conducted, so the urgency of this paper is never known. In results section only statistic result
was shown, but the explanation why the respondent gave those score was not mentioned.
There is lack explanation about the statistical number of the questionnaire, why the
respondent gave those assessment (their reason), how it affects system implementation, the
solution of the problem.
The reasoning in the results section was very few, and doesn’t have strong reasoning to
support the argument. Although this research was quantitative or rather descriptive research,
the author argument should be supported by previous research, because that is the essence of
quantitative research. By the end of the article, the author doesn’t give any closing statement
or conclusions, so the reader wouldn’t know what is the importance of the finding, the
urgency of the research, what makes the research important to be conducted, and something
lack of this research.
Conclusion: This paper does not provide any conclusion of the research
Advantage of the research: This study uses questionnaires and interviews to collect research
data, thus making the data collected reliable or strong. Because the research sample is a local
hospital, the research results can be more useful to support and advance the local organization
so they could improve their performance.
Deficiency of the research: Questionnaire was used in this research to gather the data, but
the researcher doesn’t do interviews with the subject and that makes the finding less strong.
This article was lack citation to support its argument, lack of result explanation, statistical
result was not explained, give no reasons why taking sample from health care organization,
and there is no conclusion.
