DLO MP6 Agent repair installation scenarios

The DLO 6.1 MP6 Agent repair installation is required in scenarios listed in this section.

If the repair installation is not done, the Outlook PST file backup will not work. The DLO Agent repair
installation ensures that compatible versions (x86 or x64) of the DLO Agent binaries are installed and that
the DLO Agent works as expected.

Complete the repair installation for the following situations:

A DLO MP6 Agent computer is running with no mail client and of Outlook 2010(x64) is installed later.

Outlook 2010(x64) is uninstalled and Outlook 2010(x86) is installed on an existing DLO MP6 Agent
computer.

Outlook 2010(x64) is uninstalled on an existing DLO MP6 Agent computer.

Outlook 2010(x86) is uninstalled and Outlook 2010(x64) is installed on an existing DLO MP6 Agent
computer.

On an existing DLO MP6 Agent computer, Outlook 2010(x64) and the Lotus Notes mail client co-exist
and the default mail client is toggled between Outlook 2010(x64) and Lotus Notes.

Outlook 2010(x64) is uninstalled and Outlook 2003/2007 is installed on an existing DLO MP6 Agent
Computer.

Outlook 2003/2007 is uninstalled and Outlook 2010(x64) is installed on an existing DLO MP6 Agent
Computer.

Outlook 2010(x64) and the Lotus Notes mail client co-exist and Outlook 2010(x64) is uninstalled by
making the Lotus Notes client the default mail client.

The Lotus Notes mail client exists as the default mail client and Outlook 2010(x64) is used. Lotus
Notes is uninstalled and Outlook 2010(x64) is set as the default mail client.

NOTE: When the default mail client is Microsoft Outlook 2010(x64), the Desktop Agent expects to run on
in native 64-bit mode. In other cases, the Desktop Agent expects to run in 32-bit compatibility mode with
all features and functions available.

2. To extract the files, double-click on the .zip file.

This action creates a number of files that include x64.README, x86.README and Setup.exe.

Installing and upgrading to DLO

6.1 MP6
Use the instructions in the following sections to install or upgrade DLO.

Installing NetBackup DLO 6.1 MP6

The installation package can be used to install a new DLO Administration Server or to upgrade an already
existing DLO Administration Server. For a new installation, see the NetBackup Desktop/Laptop Option
Administrator's Guide for instructions.

Upgrading to NetBackup DLO 6.1 MP6 from MP5

NOTE: All DLO 6.1 MP5 customers must apply the EEB NB_DLO_6.1MP5_ET2012075_2.zip before
upgrading to DLO 6.1 MP6.

The EEB is supplied along with the DLO 6.1 MP6 package. The EEB has a Usage Guide; please refer to
it to apply the EEB. You must apply the EEB before upgrading to DLO 6.1 MP6.

NOTE: If the EEB has already been successfully applied on an existing MP5 configuration, you do not
need to apply the EEB again.

The procedure for upgrading to MP6 from MP5 is the same as upgrading from any earlier version.

The following checks are performed by the MP6 installer when you are upgrading from MP5 to MP6:

1. The DLO 6.1 MP6 installer detects the version of the existing DLO instance.
9

2. If the version is MP4 or earlier, the DLO 6.1 MP6 installer proceeds with the installation.
See Upgrading to DLO 6.1 MP6 from MP5A/MP4 or earlier version.

3. If the installer detects that the version is MP5, it detects whether the EEB has been applied and
proceeds as follows:

a. If the EEB has been already applied, the DLO 6.1 MP6 installer proceeds with the installation.

b. If the EEB is not applied yet, the DLO 6.1 MP6 installer prompts the user to run the EEB before
upgrading to MP6 and it aborts the current installation.

Upgrading to DLO 6.1 MP6 from MP5A/MP4 or earlier

version
The DLO 6.1 MP6 installer works similarly to previous updates. The installer detects all of the installed
feature components and updates them to the new version. When you upgrade from any previous DLO
version, the existing components are first uninstalled, and then reinstalled.

Key point for upgrading existing versions of DLO to MP6

The following points were true in upgrades to DLO 6.1 MP6:

Existing Profile settings are retained after upgrading to MP6. The VSS option is not enabled by
default. The Administrator must edit existing profile settings or create a new profile with the VSS
option enabled.

For example, after an upgrade, DLO 6.1 MP3 or DLO 6.1 MP4 Agents retain their PST backup
setting. If before the upgrade the MP4 Agent was using MAPI method for PST backup, then it will
continue using MAPI method after the upgrade.

After upgrading, if you select the VSS option and if you specify the DUDF revision number, DLO does
not maintain new revisions in the DUDF as long as the previous mirror copy of the PST file exists.
(The previous mirror copy was created by a previous backup cycle using the MAPI or Non –MAPI
method.).

Backups continue to happen in the Network User Data folder (NUDF) using the VSS option. DLO
does not delete the previous mirror copy of a PST file in the DUDF, because the end user may want
to use it later.

This behavior can also be seen after an upgrade to MP6. For example, you may see it if the last backup
for a PST file was performed with the MAPI or Non-MAPI method and you change it to use the VSS
option. DLO would have created a mirror copy of the PST file in DUDF in both cases, whether the method
was MAPI (when the number of revision in DUDF is set to 1 or more) or Non-MAPI (even if number of
revisions in DUDF is set to 0).

To make new revisions, you must copy to the DUDF when you use the VSS option. Any mirrored copies
of the PST file must be deleted from DUDF folder. You can do this in following ways:

(Recommended) When selecting a new method for PST file backups in the Profile settings, the
Administrator can set the option to discard all the revisions on DUDF which are older than n days.
DLO then deletes the mirror copy after the specified number of days has elapsed.

The end user can delete the mirror copy manually from the DUDF folder.
10

Upgrading the DLO Remote SQL Server

If an existing installation is DLO 6.1 MP4 or DLO 6.1 MP5/MP5A and if the DLO Database is installed on
a remote SQL Server, the upgrade to MP6 must be carried out in the following order:

1. Uninstall the previously existing DLO database (version MP4, MP5, or MP5A).

2. Upgrade to the DLO 6.1 MP6 database.

NOTE: All DLO 6.1 MP5 customers must apply the EEB NB_DLO_6.1MP5_ET2012075_2.zip
before upgrading to DLO 6.1 MP6. See Upgrading to NetBackup DLO 6.1 MP6 from MP5.

3. Uninstall the previously existing DLO Admin Server and other components (version MP4, MP5, or
MP5A).

4. Install the DLO MP6 Admin Server and other components.

Upgrading DLO Desktop Agents

Always back up your database before you upgrade. See the section, “Backing Up and Restoring the DLO
File Server and Database” in the NetBackup Desktop/Laptop Option Administrator’s Guide.

To upgrade DLO Desktop Agents

1. Upgrade the DLO Administration Server before you upgrade Desktop Agents.

2. Close the NetBackup DLO Console before starting the server upgrade process.

3. Browse to the root folder on the installation CD and run setup.exe from that location.

You must upgrade the Desktop Agent software to take advantage of the fixes and new features in this
maintenance pack, although older versions will continue to function.

Administrative permissions are required on the desktop computer to run the upgrade.

Note: To upgrade the Desktop Agent from the DLO Administration Console, refer to the section,
“Updating DLO” in the NetBackup Desktop/Laptop Option Administrator's Guide.

To upgrade the Desktop Agent directly from the Desktop Agent computer

1. From the desktop computer, browse to the network server where the installation files for the Desktop
Agent are stored. The default location is as follows:

\\<DLO AdministrationServer name>\DLOAgent

2. Run setup.exe.
11

3. If the Volume Shadow Copy service is disabled on the DLO Agent system, you see the following
message:

The new DLO VSS component (DLOvssRequestor.exe) on the DLO Agent is responsible for taking the
VSS snapshot. The installer deploys the correct DLO VSS component for each supported platform, but
the Volume Shadow Copy service on the DLO Agent determines how the DLO VSS component works.
For the DLO VSS component to function, the Volume Shadow Copy service must be enabled on the DLO
Agent system.

Click Yes to enable the Volume Shadow copy service and continue with installation process.

Click No or Cancel if you DLO installer will not enable the Volume Shadow copy service but will continue
with installation process.

Known Issues
This section describes known issues that exist in DLO 6.1 MP6. The issues are listed by ET number
(software bug tracking number).

ET1904465
Description:

The source PST file becomes corrupted when a restore is done without closing Outlook.

How to reproduce:

1. Launch Outlook.

2. Create a PST file in the DLO backup selection.

3. Launch the DLO agent.

4. Allow the initial backup to occur for the newly created PST.

5. Restore the PST to an alternate location.

6. Open the restored PST from Outlook.

Key points:

This issue is reproducible on both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007, and appears more consistently on
Outlook 2003.
12

The problem occurs when a PST file is restored immediately and configured with Outlook when the
source PST is still open. If any operation is performed on the source PST before configuring the backup
PST, the problem does not occur.

To avoid this issue, take the following actions:

After the PST is restored to an alternate location, close Outlook and reopen it. Proceed with configuring
the restored PST with Outlook.

ET1931449
Description:

On the Profile, the Recent Outlook PST back/Restore status link is available for the DLO Agent even
when no email options are selected.

How to reproduce:

You may see this issue if you launch the DLO Agent when the VSS option is not enabled as part of the
Profile settings (in the Console UI) OR if no Mail Option is selected as part of the Profile settings

Impact:

This is a cosmetic issue in the Agent UI. It does not impact any other functionality.

ET1951328
Abstract:

Recent backup status displays the backup completion time stamp and the Restore wizard displays the
Backup start time stamp.

Description:

On the Restore tab, even though the Column Name suggests the time stamp is the Date Backed up, the
time stamp provided is the date and time when that backup was initiated, not when the backup was
completed.

For a VSS PST backup, when Recent Outlook PST Backup/Restore status is clicked, it displays the
date and time when the PST backup completed.

This time stamp matches with the "Date accessed".

Comments

Any file present on the disk will have following timestamps:

The file creation timestamp is the time when the file is created on the disk.

The file last modification timestamp is the time when the file was last modified on the disk.

The file last accessed timestamp is the time when the file was last accessed on the disk.
13

The Date Backed up column in the Restore tab refers to the file creation time. The Recent Outlook PST
Backup/Restore status displays the backup / restore timestamp, which should match with file last
modification time or file last accessed.

Impact:

None

ET1961843
Abstract:

After suspending the VSS jobs, they are not resuming for delta enabled backup selection. This problem is
seen in a particular scenario when VSS option is enabled,

DUDF is set to 0 and delta is enabled.

Comments:

This is a cosmetic issue related to the Agent UI. The job does resume at the interval set by the user, but
the job is not visible in the Agent UI.

You can verify if the backup resumed and completed successfully by checking the Restore View. If the
backup file exists at the correct resume interval, the resume operation occurred and completed
successfully.

ET1965436
Abstract:

The Recent Outlook PST file backup status link in the Agent UI does not display the PST backup
timestamps if both FAT and NTFS drives are the backup selection.

How to reproduce:

Have a backup selection for PST files on a NTFS drive and a backup selection for normal files on a FAT
drive.

Modify a file on the FAT drive and modify the configured PST file and run the backup job manually.

Click on the link Recent outlook PST file backup status (only for VSS) on the Status view or Restore
view.

Comments:

You may see a pop-up with the message, "This information is available only for VSS backup" rather than
seeing the last successful backup timestamp information.

ET1968340
Abstract:

If the DLO Agent is refreshed or any changes are made to the profile when the PST job is in retry mode,
the Backup/Restore status shows the old timestamp.
14

Comments:

This is a cosmetic issue in the DLO Agent. The last backup timestamps should display whenever a new
backup cycle begins.

ET1951328

Abstract:

In retry mode, when the job is suspended it runs at predefined retry interval (3 minutes) rather than
interval defined during suspend job.

Description:

When job is in retry mode and backup is happening, and if job is suspended for duration which is longer
than retry interval (which is 3 minutes) it resumes automatically after 3 minutes irrespective of what is the
resume interval defined for suspended job.

ET1969654
Abstract:

After upgrading the agent, upgrade popup comes whenever agent is launched followed by an occasional
forced reboot.

Comments:

This issue is very rarely observed. However, it is recommended to save and close all other applications
on the Desktops and Laptops before upgrading the DLO agent. Usually the system reboot happens after
DLO agent upgrade.

ET1971021
Abstract

Automated agent upgrade for DLO 6.1 MP5A does not work on Vista / Windows7

When you launch the automated DLO agent upgrade on Windows Vista / Windows7 clients, the agent is
not upgraded.

Comment/Workaround:

This issue exists because the system services are isolated from user applications and run as separate
sessions. Any interactive interface for the system services is unavailable to the user.

To interact with the service, the Interactive Services Detection service in Windows Vista / Windows7
presents a dialog. The dialog will switch the user to the session where the service is running.

By default, the service is run manually. You need to start the service manually or set it to run
automatically. To avoid this problem, before you upgrade the DLO agent on a Windows Vista / Windows7
client, start the Interactive Services Detection service on the client.
15

Troubleshooting Tips
The following section describes some issues that you may experience. A clarification or a tip to avoid the
issue is provided.

Error 1321
DLO installer may show the following: "Error 1321. The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the
file C:\ProgramFiles\Symantec\NetBackupDLO\Data\DLO.mdf."

Explanation

This error occurs if you uninstall the DLO server and attempt to reinstall it to the same location with a SQL
Server 2005 database.

When you uninstall the DLO server, the database files (DLO.mdf and DLO_log.LDF) are not deleted.
When you attempt the reinstallation, the DLO installer uses these database files instead of installing new
versions. These files require full rights to be used.

Normally the administrator has full rights to these files; however, the error may still occur.

Resolution

Make the following changes to each file:

Right-click on the file and select Properties.

On the Security tab, grant full rights to the Administrators group.

Upgrade failures
Upgrade to DLO 6.1 MP6 fails if the Service Control Manager is open.

Resolution

To avoid this issue, always close the Service Control Manager whenever you install, uninstall, or
upgrade DLO.

When upgrading from DLO 6.1 MP4 to MP5A, the following error occurs: "Another application has
exclusive rights to C:\~xpdloshareu.log".

Explanation:

This problem occurs when the DLO database service is running while you upgrade to DLO 6.1 MP5A.
To resolve this issue, stop the DLO database service. Then, on the error message page, click Retry.

Resolution

Always stop all DLO services before you start the upgrade.
16

PST backup with VSS

MP6 Agent is not able to do backup for PST files using VSS, even though VSS feature is enabled in for
that user.

Resolution

Ensure that Volume Shadow Copy service is enabled on the user’s system.

If VSS service is enabled, the PST file may reside on FAT32 drive. VSS-enabled backups are not
supported on FAT32 file system.

See DLO 6.1 MP5A Readme document section “About PST Backup using VSS Snapshot” for more
details on PST backup with VSS feature.

Problems fixed in DLO 6.1 MP6

The following are descriptions of the problems that are fixed in this release.
