Special Olympics
seeking volunteers
Sopuck opens office
By KATHLEEN LEDWITH

S pecial Olympics Manitoba continues to look for

volunteers to assist with their valuable program.
Trudy Adamson has dedicated her time to Special
Olympics for close to thirty years. In the fall of 1985,
Trudy decided she wanted to volunteer some time to
help others in some way. Her first choice was working
with people with special needs.
“I just love working with these kids, especially if
you are having an off day at work, just spending time
and meeting the kids, having an evening of fun with
them, I come back feeling great,” said Trudy. “The ful-
fillment I get from this is unbelievable.”
Trudy currently volunteers as a coach for
Minnedosa’s Special Olympics team, The Centurions,
a fulfilling task she has enjoyed for a number of years.
“We are always looking for volunteers,” said Trudy.
“We currently have fifteen athletes and one volunteer.”
Any Special Olympics volunteer can assist with
coaching the different sports offered through the Spe-
cial Olympics program or move forward to being a
coach.
The Centurions sport of choice is bowling and last
year, the Minnedosa team made it to the Manitoba
Provincial Games. From there, some of the local ath-
letes qualified to go ahead to the Nationals in Toronto.
The local team bowls every second Wednesday of
the month. Drivers are always needed to transport the
athletes to various games and tournaments.
