IRCS/PIS basics

Integrated Railway Communication System (IRCS) and Passenger Information


System (PIS) is our most innovative multifunctional communication system specially
developed for use in railway and other means of public transportation.
Its most important characteristic is in the possibility to connect a large number of
communication nodes (stations) in dedicated wide area IP network without
loosing the functionality of usual telecommunication networks.

- Connection to other intelligent nodes in the network
- Connection to the Passenger Information System using the same user surface

IRCS modules

The basic IRCS communication node is built in the 19” 6HE rack. The rack is
equipped with control unit module (CTRL), power supply unit (PSU) and maximum
10 different types of interface modules.

- Control unit module (CTRL) is the core of communication node. The task of
this unit is to control different interface cards and to handle the network
communication.
- Power supply unit supplies the system with the operating voltage, busy tone for
the central battery (CB) subscribers and ring tone for local battery (LB) and
central battery (CB) users (phones).
- Dispatcher interface module serve for connection with maximum 3 amplifier
and one IRCS console
- CB/LB interface module serve for connection with 6 lines. The type of the line
(LB line or connection to telephone exchange) could be configured
- Track Phone Line interface module (Hungarian standard)

- CB interface module has 6 lines with 48V DC power supply for connection of
analogue phones
- VOIP module for voice over IP H323 V2 compliant Internet telephony (G.729a,
G.723.1, G.711)
- Intercom interface module for connection of maximum 4 intercom units.

Passenger Information System

integrates variety of different remote control features and features for passenger
information:

- Remote control
(controlling of light,
switch heating on/ off,
escalators, etc)
- Data acquisition (alarm IP
contacts, monitoring of
different subsystems,
like switch heating,
ticket vending
machines - paper out,
out of order etc). Typical railway application of PIS
- Announcing digitally
pre-recorded announcements on the local railway station and remote
controlled stations.
- Local and remote control of the amplifier (monitoring of the amplifier condition,
monitoring of the volume on the loudspeaker output, adjustable volume
reduction for the announcements in the night).
- Local and remote control of video monitors for passenger information (train
schedule) with possibility of displaying MPEG video clips and TV program)
- Local and remote control of the display boards for passenger information
(LCD, Mechanical Flaps, LED)
- Video surveillance of the local railway station and remote controlled stations.

Basic services provided by the PIS-GBE (Automated Announcing Unit)
product family

Userfriendly operation by full-graphical user interface. Operation by keyboard


and/or mouse. The user interface shows the next trains sorted by time, starting at
the actual time.
The table of the train-schedule contains the following informations:

- Arrival time
- Train number
- Departure time
- Number of platforms adjustable by the operator
- Delay time in minutes adjustable by the operator
- Zone of loudspeakers adjustable by the operator
- Selection of foreign languages adjustable by the operator

Pull-down menus in the field of Special Announcements facilitate announcements


of Shunting and Other Information in specified loud speaker zone in specified
language.

The field of zone engagement shows the status of the announcement system.

The text belonging to the actual announcements or to the highlighted train numbers
is shown in the text-display window.

Services provided by the basic configuration:

- Control of two instruction or loudspeaker zones (upgradeable), monitoring of


engagement.
- Live announcements always have a higher priority.
- After the interruption of announcement by intercom units, the interrupted
announcement is automatically repeated.
- Programmed play-back of sound signals can be changed depending on the
actual situation (e.g. international, InterCity, EuroCity trains, danger sound-
signals in case of passing of trains, etc.)
- Continuous logging of system status (announcements, displays, errors, etc)
stored for the previous year
