Lesson What time is it?

There are different ways to say the time.

Look at these clocks:

It is one o’clock.
It is 1: 00.

We say o’clock only when it is the exact hour.

It is 1:15. It is a quarter past 1.

It is a quarter after 1.

It is 9:30.
It is half past nine.

It is 11:45.
It is a quarter to 12.

It is ten past 10.
It is ten after 10.

It is 4:35.
It is twenty-five to 5.

It is 12:00.
It is twelve o’clock.
It is noon (daytime).
It is midnight (nighttime).

Here are some words we use with time
What time is it?

When do you go to work?

I go to work at 9:00 AM.

Here it is the same meaning as What time do you go to work?

I go to work at 9:00 AM.

*Notice that we use AT for times.

We can add more information about time.
