1. Suppose that the life span of a particular brand of car tyre is normally distributed, with a mean
of 40,000km and a standard deviation of 3,000km. Determine the probability that a randomly
selected tyre will last:

a) Longer than 45,400km;

b) Between 38,500km and 41,500km.

Now suppose a sample of 16 tyres is selected at random. Determine the probability that
the average life span of tyres in the sample will be:

c) Longer than 41,500km;

d) Between 38,500km and 41,500km.
