Plimmerton Residents’ Association Newsletter

What’s new in Plimmerton?

March 2011
Have your say on Plimmerton’s future …
With your printed newsletter this month you’ll find a survey. We are asking for
your thoughts about where to from here. Please take time to complete the
form and return it to us before 25 March. As well as having a say on
Plimmerton’s future you’ll go into the draw to win a great family civil defence
kit.
In the survey, you’ll see a few ideas on page 3 that have been suggested by
residents. Please rate these by priority. On page 4 there’s room for you to let
us know what else you think would make this an even more special place to live.
Extra copies can be downloaded from our web site www.plimmerton.org.nz or a
printed copy can be picked up from The Big Salami.

Thoughtless parking peeves residents

Several people have asked us to remind you to tell visitors not to park on our
footpaths. Weekend visitors and trades people are said to be the ones at fault.
In James Street, visitors to the school and church are parking on the grass verges
and too close to driveways, restricting access.
Some residents are so brassed off that they are reporting these infringements
and thoughtless people are incurring fines. Please ask your visitors to show
respect to local residents.

Who owns these youths?

Drunken teenagers last Saturday night destroyed plants, tagged walls and threw
manhole covers from the pavement onto the beach. You’d have to be stunningly
stupid and self-centred not to understand the consequences of deep holes on
footpaths. Why are these school-age kids roaming in packs in the early hours of
the morning?
As Wellington’s coroner Gary Evans asked recently, “Where are the adults
responsible for the safety and behaviour of these young people?”

Plimmerton helps Christchurch

We have all been touched by the tragedy in Christchurch on 22nd March – with
most of us having friends and family severely impacted by the horrendous
earthquake.
Want to do something extra to help? We have included a flier (with the printed
newsletter) announcing an auction to raise money for our friends, families and
fellow Kiwis in Christchurch. If you would like to contribute items for the
auction and/or be part of organising this event we’d love to hear from you.
Please email meryl@harwood.co.nz
Put the It will be a fun community night so put the date in your diary today …
Thursday 31 March at the boating club 7.00- 9.00pm
All money raised will be given to the Red Cross and will go directly to assisting
the quake victims.

Survey response
Everyone is busy but please take five minutes to have your say on Plimmerton’s
future. Please return the survey form to us with your ideas for where to next
before 25 March!

Support your community – it’s the best!
Plimmerton helps Christchurch
Monster auction on Thursday 31st March
Plimmerton Boating Club, 7.00pm-9.00pm
Silent auction and a quite noisy auction!

Let’s get together as a community and support our

friends and families and fellow Kiwis in Christchurch.
Please donate quality items which we can auction at the
event. Call 233 8051 or email meryl@harwood.co.nz and
tell us what you have for us to auction. If you need things
picked up let us know.
Quality used and antique items are welcome if they have
will appeal to people. So are objets d’art and artists of
every sort are invited to donate photographs, paintings
and other art works for auction. Businesses are invited to
donate products (like plants, furniture, gift ware, sporting
goods, tools … anything people will want) and vouchers
for services (meals, beauty treatments, accommodation,
car fixing … whatever).
We’d love everyone to come along on the night and bid in
the silent and action auction for things that take your
fancy.
The bar will be open from 7pm with amazingly well
priced beverages and nibbles will be served for your
delectation.
The silent auction will also open at 7pm and the auction
itself will start when there is a full muster and the
auctioneer says it’s time.
Every cent raised will go to the Red Cross to help
people whose lives have been devastated by the
earthquake. Local Red Cross members will be there to
accept whatever we raise. Please get behind this
project to help another community in need. It could so
easily be us - we are so fortunate.
