Activities
IV. PROCEDURES
The learners will be able to understand the importance of knowing percent
composition of substances in compounds and mixtures.
a. Introduction
b. Development The learners will calculate the mass percent of each element in a
compound
c. Engagement The learners will calculate the percent mass of each element of a
compound NaHSO3 (Na = 23.o g/mol; H = 1.008 g/mol; S = 32.0
g/mol; O = 16.0 g/mol). After getting the percent mass, divide the
circle to the computed percentage of each corresponding element.
(Note that the circle is equivalent to 100% as a whole; you can use
several colors to represent each percent mass of the elements.)
1. Based on your circle, which element has the biggest mass percent?
2. Which has the smallest mass percent?
