Answer ALL questions

I. (a) List advantages and disadvantages of item rate contract and lump sum contract.
Give one example for each of them.
(b) _What is MOU: and MOA? State the necessity ofMOU and MOA.
(c) A sports activity centre shall be constructed by PWD, Midnapore Circle. Executive
Engineer(Civil) will invite the tender. The estimated cost of the work is Rs. 1210 lakh.
Write the notice inviting tender (NIT) mentioning EMD, cost of tender document,
eligibility criteria and instructipns to bidders. Different dates required for tendering shall
be from the date of NIT published (assume, in this case, the date of examination).
(d) What is GCC? State at least nine important contract clauses that ordinarily find place in
various projects ..
(e) What do you mean by optimistic, pessimistic and most likely duration of an activity?
The time T between breakdowns of a major equipment in an oil platform is defined by a
lognormal distribution with a median of 6·months and a c.o.v of 0.30. In order to ensure
a 95% probability that the equipment will be operational at any time, find the inspection
interval. (5X4=20)

2. State different methods of calculating depreciation. For an asset having an initial cost of Rs. I 0
lakh, and a salvage value of Rs. 50,000 at the end of an economic life of 7 years, the annual
depreciation and tQ.e book value at the end of each year during the economic life of the asset are
to be determined. Compare your results and present in tabular form using any three methods.

3. A construction project consists of 8 activities as listed in the following table. Three estimates,
pessimistic, most likely and optimistic time of each activity along with the predecessors are
also given. Draw the network, prepare the table and determine the critical path and the total
expected project duration. Find the probability if the project is to be completed crashing one day
or extending by one day. What will be the duration of the project with the probability of

4. Draw the network, prepare the table, determine the project duration of a construction

5. A single storeyed office building is to be constructed in six months. The estimated
quantities and quoted rates of the contractor are given in Table-1.
(i) Prepare the construction schedule giving estimated quantities likely to be executed
durin~ each montn so that the project can be completed, in six months.
(ii) Prepare the month-wise fUI!ning account (RA) bill,
(iii) Prepare the cash inflow diagram for the contractor and
(iv) Prepare the cash outflow diagram for the contractor

The following information is available :


(a) The owner makes an advance ofRs. 5 lakh, which to be recovered equally from each
running account (RA) bill of first four months. The owner also supplies materials
___,worth Rs. 5 lakh, which is also to be recovered equally from each running account
(RA) bill offirst four mon~hs. ·
(b) The owner will recover froth the payments made to the contractor two p~r cent of
the value of the work done as income tax deducted at source(TDS), and deposit this
amount with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
(c) The cost for the contractor to execute a particular item is 90% of their quoted rates.
(d) The total cost for a particular item consists of labour (20%), materials (60%), plant
and machinery (10%) and subcontractor cost (10%).
(e) It is assumed that there is no delay in payment to labour, but a delay of one month
occurs in paying to the subcontractors, material suppliers, and plant and macliinery
supplier.
(f) Retention is 10% of billed amount in every bill. Fifty percent retention amount is
payable after Qne month of practical completion, while the remaining 50% is payable
six months later.
