Question#1:

should Phil and Linda ignore that old-timer’s protests and write up the job
descriptions’ as they see fit? why not?

Answer:

No, Phil and Linda should never ignore the old-timer’s protest. Because, the old-
timers who have full knowledge about the tasks, duties and responsibilities they used to
perform during job. If the older timers are ignored, then there may be a turbulence occurs
among the workers and they well feel cheated hence leading to lower productivity. And the
workers will not provide the efficient results.

Job description is only possible to write when data/ information is collected from old
timers. Because, they know the nature and requirement of the job very well, they must be
asked about the information of the job before writing a job description.

To resolve the problem, we would recommend to use a questionnaire with both


structured as well as open ended questions. This result in reducing any misperception and
confussion.

Question:

How would you have conducted the job analysis? What should Phil do now?

Answer:

We should have conducted the job analysis in one of the two ways. Either I would
have used Questionnaire (with both structured as well as unstructured questionnaires) or the
Interview method.

In the Interview method, after collecting the information, we would further have proceeded to
get the information reviewed and verified by the immediate supervisor of the interviewee and
the inteviewee.

Phil should use the information, which is verified and received by supervisor and
worker both, for the training purpose of the new worker. The information consists of task,
responsibilities and duties of the workers. When the workers will be trained according to
collected information, they well know what to do and how to do, this will result in reduce the
confusion and time-wastage and increase in productivity so that optima Air Filter company
comes back on track.
