Pb 22x29cm 200pp col ills £124.75

Jeans, originally called "waist overalls", played a crucial role in the workforce beginning in the late
19th century. The riveted design made by Levi Strauss & Co. has since left an indelible mark on
both the history of clothing design and fashion culture. One of these designs, the Levi's 501 XX,
with its beautiful fades and eye-catching details like the famous arcuate stitching, is still held in
the highest regard among vintage clothing lovers. And although the 501 XX evolved over time to
stay current with customers' desires, it always remained true to its origins as tough work clothing.
More than 50 pairs of vintage and rare jeans and other memorabilia appear in this tribute to a
fashion icon.

The Design Of Buddhist Altar Cloths

Mitsumura Suiko Shoin 2017 ISBN 9784838105618 Acqn 31344
Pb 13c16cm 320pp col ills £39.95

The history of textiles in Buddhist temples for both decorative and practical purposes is extensive.
Whether woven or embroidered, brightly coloured silks and other fabrics serve as canopies,
banners, or wall hangings, but also as covers for altars or to embellish garments. This volume
explores the many motifs used for the altar cloth, a piece of fabric often placed on altars and side
tables near the main image in a Buddhist hall. Altar cloths initially borrowed heavily from
traditional Chinese motifs - geometric patterns, auspicious symbols, dragons, phoenixes, flowers
- but later developed to represent Japanese decorative forms, as reflected in the variety of this
collection.
