Overview
The Central Station (93900) is a software based product supplied in the form of a CD.
The central Station s/w should be loaded into a dedicated Windows based workstation.
It allows simultaneous monitoring of up to 32 élance monitors via private dedicated
Ethernet network. This allows clinicians to view information from up to 32 patients at
once. The Central station provides a rich set of features, including sophisticated alarm
management, trending, storage and printing of physiological data. It supports up to 32
bedside monitor connections and up to 14 days of trend.
Warning:
• Use only one Central Station with each dedicated network.

Overview
The élance Central Station is a software product. It should be installed in a dedicated
PC hardware. The PC hardware should be purchased locally. The élance software
should run on PCs with the minimum hardware requirements provided in this chapter.

Notes:
Spacelabs does not provide PC hardware. When purchasing the PC hardware, please ensure that
it meets the following standards, IEC 60601-1, IEC 60950 or equivalent local safety standards.

Hardware Requirement
The table below shows the minimum PC hardware requirement for élance central station:

Warning:
• Using external speakers with volume ON/OFF and/or volume control is not
recommended.
• Turning external speaker volumes down or OFF will result in a failure of all audible
alarms.

Overview
The élance Central Station is a software product runs on Windows operating system. It
should be installed in a dedicated PC hardware. The élance software should run on PCs
with the minimum software requirements provided in this chapter.

Overview
This chapter provides the step-by-step instructions to complete the installation of élance
Central Station software in a PC with the minimum hardware and software requirements
provided in this manual.

Central Station Software Installation


Below are the steps to install élance Central Station Software:
1. A minimum disk space of 70 MB is required to proceed with the installation of the
élance Central Station software
2. Locate the file Setup in the élance Central Station CD/ DVD and double click on
the same. The system displays Welcome to the Elance Central Software
Setup Wizard Screen.

3. Click Cancel button to exit the installation of the software. (Or)


4. Click Next button to proceed with the installation. The system displays Select
Installation Folder Screen.

The Select Installation Folder screen will allow you to change the name and the
path of the folder in the field available next to the Browse button. The default
folder is “C:\Program Files\Spacelabs Healthcare\Elance Central Software”.
5. Click Browse button to select the installation path.
6. Click Disk Cost to review each drive’s available and required disk space.
7. Click Everyone button to allow anyone who use this computer to access élance
Central Software.
8. Click Just me button to allow yourself to access élance Central Software.
9. Click Cancel button to exit the installation of the software. (Or)
10. Click Back button to go back to the previous screen. (Or)
11. Click Next button to proceed with the installation. The system displays Confirm
Installation screen.

12. Click Cancel button to exit the installation of the software. (Or)
13. Click Back button to go back to the previous screen. (Or)
14. Click Next button to proceed with the installation. The system displays
Installing Elance Central Software screen.

15. Click Cancel button to exit the installation of the software. (Or) After the
completion of the installation, Installation Complete screen appears.
This confirms the successful installation of the software.

Central Station Software Uninstall

Below are the steps to Uninstall élance Central Station Software:


1. Locate the file Setup in the élance Central Station CD/ DVD and double click on
the same. The system displays Welcome to the Elance Central Software
Setup Wizard Screen.

2. Click Remove Elance Central Software


3. Click Finish button to proceed with the élance Central Application Uninstall
process.
The system displays the Removing Elance Central Software Screen.

Overview
This chapter provides the step-by-step instructions to complete the post-installation
setup of élance Central Station.

Enable Central Station Software


When the élance Central Station is run the first time after the software installation, a
window allow you to enable the Central Station software is displayed.

1. Record the ID of your computer.


2. Contact SLHC EMO GTS and provide the ID you have recorded previously.
3. Enter the key provided by SLHC EMO GTS to enable your Central Station
software.

A window indicating the software is enabled will be displayed.

Post-Installation Setup
1. Click Setup -> Service to access the following Service menu.
2. Enter password when prompt for password.

3. If password is correct, the Service Setup window will be displayed.

1. Select Degrees C or Degrees F for temperature unit of measurement.


2. Select mmHg or kPa for CO2 unit of measurement.
3. Select 50Hz or 60Hz or Off to filter out local AC interference.
4. Change the number of connections to match the number of bedside monitors to
be connected.
Note:
This setting affects all bedside monitors on the network associated with this Central Station.

1. Click Setup -> System to access the following System menu.
2. Enter password when prompt.

3. If password is correct, the System Setup window will be displayed.

1. Select the Month/Year and Day of today’s date.


2. Enter the correct Time in the Current time text box.

Reporting the Configuration


In order for us to support your installation, the System setup and Service setup
screens are required to be sent to SLHC Regional Service Manager in your region and
EMO GTS after the completion of the configuration of the élance Central Station.
Follow the steps below to capture the System Setup and Service Setup screens:
1. Enter Service menu by Clicking Setup -> Service. Then enter “314z460” when
prompt for password.
2. Hold down the Alt button and press Prnt Scrn button.
3. Exit the élance Central by clicking Exit Elance Central button and Yes. (Refer
to Maintenance section in this manual for details.)
4. Run Microsoft WordPad by Clicking Start -> All Programs -> Accessories ->
WordPad. Paste the Setup System screen of your installation into a new
WordPad file by right-click on the page and click Paste.
5. Start elance Central application again.
6. Enter System menu by Clicking Setup -> System. Then enter “986” when
prompt for password.
7. Hold down the Alt button and press Prnt Scrn button.
8. Exit the élance Central by entering Service Setup menu.
9. Run Microsoft WordPad by Clicking Start -> All Programs -> Accessories ->
WordPad. Paste the Setup System screen of your installation into a new
WordPad file by right-click on the page and click Paste.
10. Save the file in the following filename format:
“YYYYMMDD - SN – Country – City – Hospital - Unit.doc” where
• YYYYMMDD is the Year, Month, Day of the installation (eg. 20090501
represent 1-May-2009)
• SN is the serial no. of your élance Central software

Inspection of External Speaker Cable Connection

1. The installer of the computer hardware and external speaker should ensure the
speaker cable is secured to the computer so that it cannot be detached from the
speaker output port of the audio card.
Warning:
unplugging the external speakers cable from the computer will result in a failure of all
audible alarms.

2. Select Patient -> Test Speaker menu. An alarm tone should sound twice when
Test Speaker button is clicked.

Overview
This chapter provides the step-by-step instructions to complete the network setup of
élance bedside monitor and central station.

Caution:
• Do not connect the monitor to an Ethernet local area network (LAN) prior to configuring the
following settings. The monitor must be properly configured for LAN access before you
operate the monitor. If you fail to correctly configure the monitor, you may interrupt other
units that is also using the LAN.

Note:
Detailed installation instructions for the physical Ethernet LAN are beyond the scope of this document.

Central Station Network Setup


Follow the procedures below to complete the network setup for the élance Central
Station software.
1. Click the Setup -> Service menu
2. Enter the service menu password when prompt.
3. Click Setup Connections button.

4. Select a location to be edited by left clicking on the line. Then, click Configure…
button.

5. Enter the Location name.

Enter the S/N if a fixed monitor is installed
in this location.

6. If this location has a fixed monitor installed, then enter the monitor serial no. in the
Monitor Serial Number text box to associate the monitor to this location. Please
note that a serial number appears next to the location.

location once plugged into the network
port and power ON.

7. If there is not a fixed monitor for this location, then leave the Monitor Serial Number
text box blank.
8. Repeat all the steps above to complete the setup of all the connection/locations that
élance monitors will be using.
9. Restart the élance Central program.
10. Connect the Central Station PC to a network port.
11. When the Central Station notices a bedside monitor with serial number associated to
a particular location, it will assign the monitor to that location automatically.

12. When the Central Station notices a bedside monitor on the network which serial
number is not associated to any location, it will display a dialog box that allows the
operator to select the physical location of the bedside monitor.

13. Click on the down arrow on the right of the text box of Connect to location: label.
14. Use the pull down menu to select the location that the patient needs to be admitted
and click OK.
15. Confirm the connection by clicking Yes.

16. Once that is done, the monitor should start communicating.

Disconnect from Ethernet Network


To remove a monitor from the network, disconnect the network cable from the
10/100BaseT network connection.

Caution:
• Do not disconnect the network cable of a Bedside monitor during monitoring, except transferring the
patient to another bed, to avoid data disruption at the Central Station.

Central Station Printer Setup


1. Connect a printer to the Central Station PC.
2. Use Windows Control Panel Add Printer wizard to add the printer to the system.
3. Select the printer as default.
Warning:
Communication link between a bedside monitor and the Central Station will be disconnected when a
print job is requested from a bedside monitor if the default printer is set to an non-existent network
printer. The monitor will reconnect automatically to the original bed if its serial no. has been
enterend in the network configuration to a fixed location. Otherwise, it is necessary to select a
location from the pop-up window to reconnect the bedside monitor to the original location.

Caution:
Only local or network printer should be used. Use of software printer such as PDF printer is not allowed.

Overview
This chapter provides the recommended setting up Genie Backup Manager Professional
Edition 8.0 software for use with élance Central Station software to backup data for
patient who is admitted to the Central Station. The Genie Backup Manager software is
used to backup and restore the Central Station data.

Genie Backup Manager Professional Edition 8.0 from Genie Soft is recommended to
perform the backup of the vital data in the élance Central Station.

Refer to the instruction provided by Genie Backup Manager to complete the installation
of Genie Backup Manager Pro 8.0 software.

Uninstall Genie Backup Manager


Refer to the instruction provided by Genie Backup Manager to uninstall the Genie
Backup Manager Pro 8.0 software from the élance Central Station computer.

Setting up the Backup Schedule

Set up a daily
Set up a weekly incremental
full bakup on backup

1. Set up a weekly full backup on Sunday.


2. Set up a daily incremental backup.
3. Check Minimize backup window when running job.
4. Limit number of backup sets to (if supported by media) one or two sets only.

Restoring Backup of élance Central Station


Refer to the instruction provided by Genie Backup Manager to restore the data to the
élance Central Station computer in case of data lost or hardware failure.

Speaker Test
Select Patient -> Test Speaker menu. An alarm tone should sound twice when Test
Speaker button is clicked.

Exit élance Central Station


1. Click Setup -> Service to access the following Service menu.
2. Enter password when prompt.

3. If password is correct, the Service Setup window will be displayed.

4. Click Exit élance Central button and Yes.

Overview
The Central Station hardware is a locally sourced PC workstation pre-loaded with the
required Windows operating system. Hardware and Operating System (O/S) support
should be obtained from the local workstation supplier. The Central PC Workstation is
connected to the monitor network via a network switch. An Ethernet network for
networking the central Station and bedside should be provided locally. Functional issue
related to élance Central Station software should be reported to EMO GTS after
confirming the cause is not related to PC hardware, Windows O/S, service patch,
incompatibility with other software, network failure or user error.

Computer Hardware Test


Follow the PC hardware troubleshooting guide provided by the PC vendor to verify
hardware problems. Please contact the PC vendor for further technical support and
repair.

Operating System Test


For Windows O/S related problems, please contact the O/S supplier for support and
restoration of the operating system. The Windows “Event Viewer” may be used to obtain
the error information for communication with the O/S vendor.

Central Network
Please ensure the Central Station network configure is completed properly by following
Section 6 Network Setup of this manual. If the problem is not due to network setup, it
could be computer hardware, operating system and /or network hardware problem. If
the problem is due to network hardware, please contact the network vendor for technical
support, troubleshooting and network components replacement & repair.
