SANKARA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCE (SIMS) TIES UP WITH

INDIAN OVERSEAS BANK TO MARKET BANKING PRODUCTS OF IOB

Sankara Institute of Management Science in association with Indian Overseas Bank, Coimbatore
organized one week “Workshop on Marketing Skills” for its management students from 21 st
January, ‘12 to 28th January, ’12. The workshop started in right earnest on 21 st January, ’12 with
the welcome speech by the Director of SIMS, Dr. Karthikeyan, who advised the students to
utilize the opportunity of working with IOB and learn marketing skills, to make them
employable in industries when they leave the portals of SIMS.
Joint Secretary, Mr. Saketh Ramachandran narrated the long standing bonding between SIMS
and IOB and was hopeful that students of SIMS would fully utilize the exposure given by IOB.
His speech was followed by the inspiring talk of Mr. Bhaskaran, The Chief Regional Manager,
IOB, Coimbatore who extolled the students to work harder and never get disappointed if the
customer did not show any interest in any of the products of the bank. He went on to add that
sincerity, hard work and commitment are three important marketing skills He urged the students
to keep in mind always that they carry 2 major brands – SIMS and IOB on their shoulders.
Mr. Bhaskaran highlighted the fact that IOB is augmenting its resources and its efforts to
upgrade itself from 7th Best Bank to be within first 5 best banks in India. He also reiterated that
IOB would be adding 1000 more branches to its existing 2,400 branches.
With more than 3,00,000 IT assesses in Coimbatore alone, IOB not only plans to promote its
healthcare products, but provide services like payment of corporation tax, water tax, electricity
bills, etc. He gave details of various products available with IOB ranging from Savings Bank
Account to Current Account to Gold Coin Scheme to Medical Insurance.
His speech was followed by the inspiring talk of Dr. Chandrasekaran, Advisor, Aegis Global
Academy on marketing 7Ps – Product, Price, Promotion, Place, Physical Evidence, People,
Process. He emphasized that 7Ps will only be empty and of no use, if these are not supported by
another P – Practice. He called upon management students to have 3 Rs – Right Attitude, Right
Skills and Right Knowledge on happenings around us, apart from subjects being taught in the
classroom.
The Chief Manager of IOB, Mr.Siddivinayagam urged the students to take the marketing
challenges and make the programme a grand success, so that they get self confidence and belief
in themselves.
Some of the clients of IOB narrated their success stories through hard work, risk taking abilities
and the support they received from IOB during their initial years of struggle.
Both IOB and SIMS expressed their happiness that students have started the work in right
earnest and have already helped to open savings bank account with more than 100 clients in
Saravanampatti, Ganapathy, Brookfields, Mettupalayam Road Branches. Director of SIMS,
expressing happiness in the initial success of the programme, has now decided to explore new
avenues to get the management students practical training in business activities.
Ms. Shiny, Asst. Prof. SIMS proposed vote of thanks to all those who supported SIMS and its
efforts to make students employable.
