HEPWORTH P.M.E. INTERCEPTORS:   
 
When designing our line of interceptors, we have kept in mind the fact that these units must be 
for practical applications. As a result, the units embody practical features that make installation 
easier and also simplify cleaning and servicing. 
 
APPLICATION:   
 
The interceptor is a necessary Trap supplied by Hepworth P.M.E where grease, fats, oils or other 
similar line clogging contaminants are present in waste water that must be disposed off through 
the  sanitary  system.    The  problem  of  preventing  grease  from  entering  drainage  lines  should 
always be considered when designing the plumbing drainage system in any Restaurant, Cafeteria, 
Hotel,  School,  Hospital,  Institutional  or  commercial  building  having  facility  for  the  preparation 
and  serving  of  food  in  quantity.  In  these  installation,  as  well  as  commercial  food  processing 
plants,  dairies  and  other  industries  where  grease  and  fats  are  a  by‐products  and  efficient 
“Hepworth”  interceptor  should  be  installed  to  prevent  this  material  for  entering  the  drainage 
line. 
 
HOW THE INTERCEPTOR OPERATES.   
 
Baffle plates and sediment basket are scientifically placed to allow efficient separation of grease 
oils and clogging contaminant’s can be easily removed.  Water draining to the interceptor passes 
through the inlet pipe into the sediment basket. As the water enters the Basket at a controlled 
rate of flow it is free of turbulence. It then  Passes over a series of separator baffles which are 
designed to cause greases, fats and oils to become separated and released from the waste water. 
Once released, these contaminants rise to the top of the interceptor by natural flotation and are 
accumulated until removed. The waste water now relieved of over 90% of the contaminant oils 
and greases, continues to flow through the interceptor into the sanitary system.

PRACTICAL FEATURES:   
 
 The  one  piece  cover  used  on  the  interceptor  is  equipped  with  a  single  loc  and  lift  (  two  on 
large size ), the locking device is a simple part of the cover assembly.   
 A soft flat neoprene gasket is firmly attached to the body of all interceptors. This eliminates 
the gasket tearing loose every time the cover is removed.   
 Interceptors have an air relief / vent to eliminate the possibility of siphon age. 
 
 
MAINTENANCE: 
 
All interceptors must be cleaned regularly. The frequency of grease removal is dependent upon 
the  capacity  of  the  interceptor  and  the  quantity  of  grease  in  the  waste  water.  The  cleaning 
interval can vary from once a week to once in several weeks. When this period is deter minded, 
we recommend regular cleaning at this interval in order to maintain proper operating efficiency. 
Solids that collect in the interceptor through settling should also be removed at the same time of 
the grease removal
