Activity 1 (15 points)

Instruction: In one of his essays, the "Religiosity of the Filipinos, Rizal asserted that
science is helpful in understanding the Creator. As a propagandist writing in the La
Solidaridad, Dr. Jose Rizal would invoke the importance of science in laying out reforms
and in improving the state of the country. In the "Indolence of the Filipinos", Rizal
argued the importance of physical Sciences to understand current social reality. In "The
Philippines a Century Hence, he compared science with history.

"History does not record in its annals any lasting domination by a group of people... the
existence of a foreign body within another endowed with strength and activity is contrary
to all natural and ethical laws. Science teaches us that it is either assimilated, destroys
the organism, is eliminated or becomes encysted. "

Discover your own local surroundings. Find out what endemic species are found in your
location. It can either be a plant or an animal. How important are these species? Is
science related to nation building?

The endemic species plants that is available in my location is the ‘Giant Elephant Ear’ or
in its scientific name ‘Colocasia Gigantea.’ This plant is well-known in the Philippines,
specifically in Mindanao since it’s abundant in any areas, but during the pandemic,
many people from Luzon violate the law by monopolizing these plants and using it for
personal purposes by selling it in a higher cost, where in the Mindanao, we always pay
respect and preserve what we have today. These endemic plants are endangered that
should be preserved for a number of reasons, endemic plants are the foundation of our
natural forest ecosystem and also for the protection of our biodiversity. If we failed to
preserve these endemic plants or species, it will affect other species and the ecosystem
itself, in addition, we can’t predict what the future may bring.

Instruction: Reminisce about your travels and find out if you look photos of them. What
was unforgettable in those places? Why do they stick in your memory? Did you learn
from those places with regard their history, culture, or heritage? How did you relate with
the people who lived there? How Jose Rizal's travel abroad accentuate his thoughts on
art works?

The travel that I’ll always be remembered was the moment when we’re in Zamboanga
City. The first time I’ve been there was about 12 years ago where my father had a
tennis tournament so we also came along for a short vacation. What I love about the
city is that the structure of their buildings and monuments are preserved and to give the
tourists an insights to their historic background. We visited Fort Pilar Shrine that was
built for the protection of Christians against Moro pirates or the local muslims. We also
visited Freedom Park located in a valley where one can have the sights of the
mountains and panoramic view of the city. Some of its popular attractions in Freedom
park are the campsite for Boy and Girl Scouts, a natural swimming hole called Chrislam
Pool, Heroes Hill in honor of World War II soldiers, the Freedom’s Eternal Shrine in
honor of the late Sen. Benigno Aqui8no, and the Ecumenical or Holy Hill where the 14
Stations of the Cross can be found leading up to the giant white cross at the top of the
hill. The park also serves as the final resting place of the late city mayor Cesar C.
Climaco. In relation to Jose Rizal’s travel abroad, traveling widen his knowledge about
the surroundings, the people and also the culture itself, these were his inspirations to
make his motherland Philippines a better place and his fellow citizens away from
cruelty.
Activity 3 (15 points)

Instruction: Name one organization famous in your own town or city. What have it done
to gain this prominence? How they able to recruit members? Do they need have
corporate social responsibility to the people in your town or city? What kind of services
do they provide? Are they open to other members not from your town or city? Is
formation of this organization still relevant in today's Internet Age? Does it stand the test
of time? How do you practice freewill if you are a member of an organization?

Since I live distance away from the barangay, I wasn’t able to know the organizations
that they made and I’m not aware about the members or the implementations of those
organizations as well as their services in the city. But if they have it now, these
organizations and the services will help people to coordinate and communicate properly
especially among the departments, and they will also influence young generations to be
like them and to help achieve their common goals to their society. These organizations
will always be relevant even in today’s Internet Age since not everyone has an access
to these technologies. Through these organizations, you’re making a way to make an
access to people who are not privileged enough and help them in your own way.
