1. In recent years, the mayor and City Council have used a mix of revenue
increases and cuts in expenses to balance the city budget. Do you agree? If not,
what would you do differently?
No, I do not agree. Cuts are promised, but never materialize. Each budget is larger than
the previous and taxes are raised to fill the gaps. In the last three years taxes have
been raised six times. Haven’t you noticed? I will work to focus attention on core
functions as defined by economic principles and diminish everything else.
I do not support the Jacksonville Journey program. I see it as a welfare style spending
program disguised as a crime fighting initiative with dubious objectives and questionable
results. Return on investment is “pie in the sky” projections, ut light on quantification. As
with all welfare programs it is expanding into other ventures.
5. How do you intend to comply with Florida's public records and government in
the sunshine laws? If you saw an elected official breaking the sunshine law, what
would you do?
As a member of the True commission, I already am subject to and must comply. I would
urge all government personnel to comply with these rules. They are in place to improve
government.
6. What can you do to help support the clean-up of the St. Johns River?
7. How can you become engaged in the city’s high murder, infant mortality and
suicide rates?
8. Has consolidation been a good or bad deal for Jacksonville? Please explain
your answer.
Not mini-mayor; the mayor’s role is different from council. The council member is
A. Legislator
B. A source of checks and balances in a tri-cameral government
C. Financier -- remember, the councilman is the only person in the government who can
Vote to spend public funds or vote to take taxes from the public.
D. An economist because his every vote affects the lives and livelihoods of every citizen
in the county.
