Sea Week At Tairua School:
We had an awesome day down at Tairua Beach last
Thursday to celebrate Sea Week. The children were
split into their four houses for the days events, rotating
around four activities. The beach clean up is always
an important aspect of the days proceedings and af-
ter much searching and scouring a significant amount
of rubbish was found.
Message from Flynn Cleary-Morgan
We did a beach clean up and were not happy with what we
found. There were cans, bottles, plastic, foam, rope, glass, Enrolments open 8th March and close 25th March. Be
corks and hundreds of cursed cigarette butts. The reason
why we don’t like this is because if animals and sea-life eaton website or from school office. Further enquiries to
this stuff, they will die, then others will come and eat it and so
on. Also this rubbish does not rot down. People need to stop
putting rubbish on the beach and keep the world as green Whangamata Gymnastic Club:
as it can be, take responsibility for yourself.
H.P.V and Year 7 Booster:
Chrissy Baird, our public health nurse is in this Thursday
from 1:30pm administering vaccinations to those stu-
dents that have elected to receive one. If you have
any concerns or issues please make contact with the
school, or Chrissy before Thursday.
Waterwise / Sailing Programme:
Here is our waterwise programme for week 6.
Wedns 9th of March—10:00– 12:00, Kayaking Sailing
Thursday 10th of March—10:30-12:30, Kayaking Sailing
Friday 11th of March—11:30– 1:30, Kayaking only
Surf Academy:
This Wednesday we will be meeting
at the Tairua Surf club at 3:30 to
complete session 2 for surf acad-
emy. We have an outgoing tide
(5.06pm Low Tide), 1.2m swell with
easterly winds. The conditions may
change between now and Wednes-
day so please check the school notice board outside
the office for any new developments. We had a ratio
of 1:2 over in Pauanui, that made for a safe learning
environment and we will require just as many eager
parents and caregivers this week.

Books Change Lives:
Which books have changed your life? New Zealand
Book Month 2011 is all about celebrating our New Zea-
land authors and books and promoting the idea of
books changing lives. Have you read a book by a
New Zealand author lately? The TCDC Libraries have
displays throughout the libraries, featuring a diverse
range of books by New Zealand authors. You can win
a New Zealand book by entering our New Zealand
Book Month Quiz. There is a quiz for adults and a quiz
for children, so make sure you are into win!
What: NZ Book Month: displays, questions, quizzes and
prizes.
When: Throughout March
Next Wednesday the 16th of March the Student lead-
ers have organised a super hero’ day. Kids can come
along to school dressed up as a fictional super hero’s,
police officers, fireman, USR, anyone of the super
hero’s seen on T.V working in Christchurch. There
will be a sausage sizzle ($2)and juicies ($1)for sale with
all proceeds going to the Christchurch community.
There will be parade just before lunch followed by an
activity afternoon for the kids. More details next week.

TAIRUA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

We had a fantastic turn out for last weeks Tairua
School Swimming Sports. 93% of our children attended
this event, along with parent/caregivers and members
of the wider school community. Our school swimming
programme has been highly successful this season
and we will continue to build on the progress made
this year. I think you will all agree that our new pool
area is exceptional, making this swimming sports the
best we have ever had. A big thank you to those par-
ents that participated in the student/ teacher/ parent
relay race. The parents won by the slimmest of mar-
gins, with the teachers and students taking out 2nd
and 3rd. Thank you to Brett Rhind and Dean Hoefsloot
for their efforts on the BBQ raising $204.00 for the Can-
terbury Quake Appeal.
Room 1 Junior Parent Evening:
This evening, commencing at 7pm in Room 1, Nel
will run the parents of those children in Room 1, and
Kick Start parents, through Tairua School’s Junior
school curriculum. Nel has a deep understanding of
curriculum and implements an experiential based
learning programme. PM.P, Foundation skills, Jolly
Phonics etc are but a few programmes that feature
in your child’s daily learning experiences. This is Nel’s
formal, community parent/conference for parents
unlike the conferences set up next week.
Our Harvest Festival:
Last Thursday our students, staff, parents/caregivers
and wider school community came together to
celebrate the efforts of our Garden competition par-
ticipants. This competition has been running for over
3 months developing a wide range of skills and atti-
tudes reflected in our C.I.T.I.Z.E.N concept. On behalf
of the students and staff I would like to acknowledge
the efforts of all those parents/caregivers that came
along to cook, clean, set up, serve and assist with this
truly spectacular day. Once again we have created
an iconic day for our school community that brings
students, staff and families together, embracing and
creating the unique resources that we have avail-
able to us.

Parent / Teacher Conferences, Week 7

Towards the end of this week you will receive your par-
ent/teacher conference appointment. We have had
a positive response from the parents and caregivers,
making the timetable next week extremely tight. If you
have any issues with your appointment time please
make contact with the classroom teacher.
School Assembly:
This week Room 1 will be hosting our school assembly.
These assemblies are always a great opportunity to
catch up with what the children have been studying
and acknowledging the achievements of our children.
Assembly begins at 2:30pm.
