WOUND TREATMENT: CONTRIBUTION AT THE NURSING’S TEACHING
ABSTRACT
In this descriptive and exploring study, the teaching of wound treatment, comprised
within the curricula of Nursing Schools in Minas Gerais, was analyzed. Wound
treatment has reported since ancient times and its evolution follows up the scientific and
technological development.
Presently, the tendency of wound treatment is changing and the classical produced, i.e.,
mechanical cleaning and antiseptic use, is being dropped. This work was developed in
nine (9) nursing schools of Minas Gerais, and found this topic within seventeen (17)
course programs. All schools present the topic within one or more courses from the
second to the fifth year. The technical aspects were analyzed. It was found that the
objectives, teaching strategies and tests are thought for the course as a whole and not for
this specific subject. The relevance of the harmony among technical aspects within the
programs is emphasized in this work, since the Nursing teaching about wound treatment
or any other subject should aim a professional able to follow the constant development
of science and capable to change the producers, it necessary, in order to chase this
evolution.
