The number of mobile users in Asia is still the most. The main
service is still the voice call. But the proportion of data service will
keep increasing 4

Better User Experiences

– Voice performance can compare to that of fixed network

– Efficiently support various multi-media services

– Support medium and high speed mobility (e.g. high-speed

train)

– Stable service performance

– Lower terminal power consumption.

– Less call setup time for special services, including emergency

phone call, PoC (Push to talk over Celluar), GoTa (Global
open Trunking architecture, which has been used in China),
and so on.

Air Interface Evolution Phase
Phase 1: Multi-carrier HRPD(MC)

– Proposed target completion of first specification in the February of

2006.

– Primary objectives are to increase peak data rates and maintain

backward compatibility

– Prioritize enhancements that minimize impact to infrastructure

hardware

– Support bandwidth allocations up to 20MHz and up to 15

carriers (1.25MHz)

12
Air Interface Evolution Phase
Phase 2 : Enhanced cdma2000
– Target completion of associated technical study and
specification publication by mid-2007.

– The relevant technologies in phase 2 are likely to include:

Enhanced CDMA
Enhanced equalizers
IFDMA
Interference cancellation
MIMO and other advanced antenna technologies
OFDM(A)
Other advanced coding techniques
SDMA
