resistance of a battery using a low alternating current.
■ Electrical fault
Internal resistance can be affected by plate technology,
■ Excessive use of electrical consumers - by the amount of active material left on the plates and
car phones, air conditioning etc by the condition of that active material.
■ Long standing time without recharge 8. A battery that is 2-3 years old may still be serviceable
■ Boot light/glove box malfunction but because of 'wear and tear' may only give a 75%

charge at the above rate or if 3 or more cells fail to respond in a prolonged charge, the battery has failed due to aging, wear and

A VISUAL CHECK
For battery testers with switchable resistances (Variable Load), discharge the battery at about
3 x the 20hr rate for 10 seconds. (e.g. battery capacity 45 ampere hour (A.H.) = 3 x 45 = 135
amp(s). The voltage during discharge should be stable at 9.6 volts or over.
DIN: Specifies discharge down to 1.5 volts per cell over a period of 30 seconds at -18°C
SAE: Specifies discharge down to 1.2 volts per cell over a period of 30 seconds at -18°C
IEC: Specifies discharge down to 1.4 volts per cell over a period of 60 seconds at -18°C
EN: Specifies discharge down to 1.25 volts per cell over a period of 10 seconds at -18°C
As a result the same battery can have three different ampere ratings for cold starting performance, which means like for like products cannot be
compared easily without knowing which criteria the battery performance is measured against.
In all car and commercial specifications quoted in this catalogue Manbat use the SAE test condition.
