WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
Wireless communication in our era is most important because we want to access
anything, anytime anywhere at the maximum data rate. For the attainment of this
goal,many new technologies evolving.

Multi-carrier modulation
It is one of the transmission techniques in which
transmission bandwidth is divided into several narrow sub-channels and data is transmitted in a parallel
fashion in these sub-channels. Data in each sub-channel is modulated at a relatively low rate so that the
delay spread of the channel does not cause any degradation as each of the sub-channels will experience.

OFDM is a powerful modulation technique, it has its own

challenges. OFDM is a multi-carrier modulation technique that can overcome many problems (arising
with high bit rate communication) the biggest of which is the time dispersion. In
OFDM, the carrier frequencies are chosen in such a way that there is no influence of other
carriers in the detection of the information in a particular carrier when the orthogonality of
the carriers are maintained.

MC-CDMA OFDM is a gifted scheme for multicarrier (MC) transmission, since it has the
advantage of high spectral efficiency, robustness to frequency selective fading, and possibility of low-
cost transceiver implementation. The combination of OFDM and CDMA, referred as OFDM-CDMA,
recently attracted most research interests in wireless communications.
In MC-CDMA we assign the special codes to each data bit and then implement OFDM technique
and finally transmit our data.

Objectives
We have 3 main objectives in our project
1) Literature review

2) Simulations of Multi carrier modulation(OFDM)

In our simulation we shall use the following channels
i) AWGN
ii) RAYLEIGH FADING
iii) TWO RAY CHANNEL
Noise to be introduced in our simulations are
i) AWGN noise
ii) Impulse noise
iii) Coloured noise
We use different coding techniques in our simulations

i) Convolutional coding
ii) Reed soloman coding
iii) Interleaving
In our simulation we find BER(bit error rate) of our signal under different noises and using different
coding schemes.

3) Hardware Implementation

METHODOLOGY
STEP1: To take a thorough study of OFDM.
STEP2: Study the techniques involved while communicating two channels.
STEP3: Simulation of Multi-carrier modulation system and study it’s effect in the presence of
different noises and channels.
STEP4: FPGA board implementation.

DURATION
This project will be completed in the given time frame, by the grace of ALLAH
ALMIGHTY We shall make our level best to complete simulations in 7 th semester while hardware
implementation will be completed in final semester.

APPLICATIONS
MC-CDMA will be a mile stone towards the secure and efficient wireless
communications. Also the implementation of this technique on FPGA(has higher data rate)subjected to
the availability.
