Who I Admire/ She was a wonderful person

Summary:   Describes a greatly admired person. Details why the person is deserving of
admiration.

Virtually everyone has someone that they admire. Most of my friends admire movie stars
like Tom Cruise or superstar athletes. Have you ever thought of about who you admire?
Well, I certainly have! The person I admire the most is neither world famous nor a
multimillionaire. I save my admiration for a special woman, Mrs. Zamora.

She is a leader and not a follower and the difference is that as a leader and not a follower
is dependable, supportive, and attentive. First of all, I worship the very ground that she
walks on because I know that I can depend on her. She is a natural born leader. She is
one of the best of the "older generation." She does such a wonderful job educating her
son to be a good person in life. She has done the best job through life and experience to
build up a strong family. One of the strongest reasons why I extremely admire her is the
value, and respect she lives her life by.

I remember a time during winter of last year when I looked at her with such admiration.
At a home meet her son was wrestling against a very experienced wrester from
Waterford. As he was fighting his way through his very first match, I could see her
watching her son from the stands with such pride in her eyes. Although Charles put up a
great fight, his opponent wasn't following the rules of wrestling. His opponent lifted him
up extremely high, and slammed him down on the mat. I could hear Charles' bones
cracking so loudly from the stands, that I knew right away that he had got hurt badly.
She got up and ran down the bleachers to go help her son, and I could just see the terror
and fear in her eyes. The look on her face just left me in shock, because of the fact that
she cared for her son so much that she would run down the bleachers, not caring what
everyone else was thinking, just to see if her son was okay. Mrs. Zamora took care of her
son better than any follower I know. She did things her own way, on her own time.

Hard work is a part of her life, but she still is smiling every time I've seen her. Her life
can be a good example of a person who has been through a lot, but never asked for help
as if asking for help is a weakness, at least to her it is a symbol for weakness. To me she
lives by the quote "Don't feel helpless in life and try to live your life in a way that people
who know you can remember you, that is with pride and respect." I've only known her for
one year, but she's the type of person that you can get close with easily, she doesn't
push you away. If I need help she's always there. If I'm having a bad day she's always
there to help make it better. To me she's like the mom that I never had.

For what she does for her son, and the people that are close to her is the reason I
respect, admire, and appreciate her in my life. I've never met someone that could be
having the worst day and still have a smile of their face. I've never met someone that
had so much pride and respect for themselves and for their loved ones. I can not put into
words how much I admire and respect Mrs. Zamora. (596 words)

The Model Essay:

A Ray of Light

She was a lost cause. No one could help her because she was unable to communicate.
Why did Anne Sullivan believe she could help her? Sullivan undertook a task that many
thought to be impossible: to establish some means of communication with Helen Keller
and to bring this blind, deaf, and mute girl into a world that she could never before have
imagined. Of all the influential people throughout time, Anne Sullivan is the one I most
admire. Because of her determination, her ability to connect with a deeply troubled child,
and her defiance of the odds against her, she set an important example for all of us.

Physically, Anne Sullivan was much like other women of the nineteenth century. She was
an everyday person on the outside; however, her character reveals that her ordinary
appearance was misleading. Her greatest qualities lay within. Anne was an intelligent
woman who could deal with all that life threw her way. In 1887, life gave her the
opportunity to meet her greatest challenge, Helen Keller. To be able to cope with all that
came with this job, she relied on her patient temperament as well as her loving and
optimistic nature. Regardless of how grim the situation appeared to others, Anne saw the
tiny increments of progress in Helen, and no matter how long it took, she refused to give
up her hope that someday Helen would be able to function like other children.

To truly touch and brighten the life of a child is one of the most incredible achievements
that one could ever hope to reach. I personally hold a great admiration for Anne Sullivan
because she connected with achild and made her life better. Helen Keller had lived a life
of complete frustration, absolutely cut off from the world around her. Anne Sullivan
changed that. She taught a girl who knew nothing of relationships and love to
communicate with a world she could neither see nor hear. Helen Keller's life was changed
for the better because one woman's inexhaustible efforts paid off. Anne Sullivan
connected with her, as one human being to another.

An accomplishment second only to that of touching the life of a child is completing what
most would consider an impossible task. Anne Sullivan did both. Though many before her
had failed, she began her task as though nothing could stop her. Even after several minor
failures of her own, Anne continued to push Helen and herself to find a way for this little
girl to know the outside world. She put in long hours of frustration and hope in order to
complete her task. Most people in her position would have given up and left this poor girl
to fend for herself, but Anne Sullivan was different: she put Helen before all else. And by
defying the odds, she set herself apart from all others.

Bringing a ray of light to the life of a child, though many obstacles might stand in
your path, is a feat that few accomplish. Anne Sullivan succeeded with her never-ending
patience and love. She stands as an extraordinary role model for me in that she
encompasses all that I hope to be and accomplish in my life.
