RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

It should be noted, at this time, Senator Hillary Clinton is not a target of this investigation.
BACKGROUND
In August 2001, LAFO began a full field investigation into allegations that New York
Senate 2000, a joint fund-raising committee affiliated with Hillary Clinton's United States Senate
Campaign, violated federal campaign finance laws and made false statements to the FEC.
Specifically, these allegations center around a fund-raising event held on August 12, 2000 in Los
Angeles, California, entitled "THE HOLLYWOOD GALA SALUTE TO PRESIDENT
WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON' (GALA). This event raised approximately $1 million for
New York Senate 2000, which in turn, distributed allowable proceeds to the HILLARY
CLINTON FOR UNITED STATES SENATE CAMPAIGN. The GALA was hosted by comic
book legend Stan Lee and of an Internet media company b6
b7C
called Stan Lee Media (SLM).
The LAFO investigation has revealed that New York Senate 2000 deliberately
undervalued the in-kind contributions made by a n d SLM in staging the GALA. I n filings to
the FEC, New York Senate 2000 claimed in-kind contributions of expenses for the GALA of
approximately $400,000. However, the investigation has uncovered the true value of the in-kind
contributions to be more than $1 million dollars. A s a result, New York Senate 2000 distributed
prohibited federal or "hard money" proceeds of more than $200,000 to the HILLARY CLINTON
FOR UNITED STATES SENATE campaign.
