Introduction
"TheHousesofClanTremerearelittlemorethancultsofpersonalityattheir
worst,butaredistinctcollegesofmagicorphilosophyattheirmostvalid.The
ClanconsistsofanunknownnumberofHouses;someclaimingonlyahandful
ofmembers,whileothers–theHouseofTremere–claimeverychildeofthe
clan.

Housestheoreticallygrowaroundonecentralmagicalprincipleorcollection
of theories. House Tremere, for example,upholds Hermetic blood magic, as
itsfundamentaldoctrine.

By and large, Houses are informal congregations, peopled by elective
memberships and upheld as long as they fulfill some purpose. Even these
purposesmayvary."

Housesareinternationalschoolsofthought.Tremerefromanywhere
in the world can be in the same House, as Houses are devoted to a
field of study. The Apprentices in any given chantry may all be of
differentHouses.(Likeamilitarybase,thebasecommandercontrolsallofthepeopleonthebase,but
theyallhavedifferentjobsandtheyworkandtalktootherswiththesamejob).
ThedecisionofHousemembershipisgenerallymadeatsomepointbeforepromotiontoApprentice
of the second circle of mysteries. However, there are Tremere who have executed brilliant careers
withinthepyramidwithoutjoiningaHouseuntilattainingRegencyifatall.
WhileHousestheoreticallygrowaroundonecentralmagicalfocus,inpracticetheyoftenformaround
sharedgoals(defense,research)orevenasglorifiedcoteries.Theselatterfrequentlyhaveahandfulof
charismaticTremereattheircoreandareviewedwithsuspicionbythePyramid,sincethemembersof
suchHousesmayplacetheirHouses'goalsabovethoseofthePyramidasawhole.
ItisgenerallynotacceptedforaTremeretobeanactivememberofmorethanoneHouse,asHouses
haveguardedsecretsthattheydonotwishtosharewithmembersofrivalHouseswithinthepyramid.
Choosing to join in a House is very much like picking a major once joining college and, like in most
universities,it'sencouragedtobedonesoonerratherthanlaterinthewarlock'scareer.Itcanalsobe
analogoustoapprenticingatatradeschool.Embarkingononeofthese'careerchoices',willsetthe
bloodmagusdownthepathoflearningthingsnotonlyforthebenefitofthethaumaturge,buttheir
House,aswellasHouse&Clan.Assuch,thereare bothbenefitsanddetrimentsforthesechoices.

Thereisno'demand'thatawarlockjoinanyoftheseHouses,andit'snotimpossibletojoinaftera
timehavingbeen'independent'andnotpartofanysortofHouse.Thatsaid,joiningearlierwillgarner
more'benefits'totheprospectiveapplicant.Thereareeventimeswhensireswilldeliberatelychoose
prospectivechilderbaseduponwheretheymay'land'whenitcomestochoosingaHouse.
BenefitsofjoiningaparticularHousemayincludeaneaseinlearningsomepathsofmagic(loweringof
rarity), openings to learn new and sometimes esoteric knowledge (Sciences, rare Lores, Languages,
etc.), and whatnot. The 'downside' is that the Houses, in their specificity, neglect learning about
thingsthattheydonotspecializein.Assuch,membersoftheseHousesfindthatlearningsomethings
arenow'notontheircareerpath'(i.e.,raritylevelsofcertainmagicsareincreased).

Asanimportantreminder,nostartingPCcanjoinaHousewithoutICrequestandroleplaytoearna
spot within, even with rollover experience. All characters attempting to join a House must contact
theappropriatelocalsubcoordinator,andbegintheprocessoffindingICinformationaboutHouses
thattheybelievetheywouldfitintobest.

ForChronicleNPCs:Yes,NPCscanbepartoftheHouses.However,itisimperativethatSTsworkwith
the Coordinator team in making sure that everyone is on the same page, and so that there are not
'mystery' members out there that the Coordinator team is unaware of. As such, please contact the
Tremere Coordinator about adding NPC members of various Houses for your home chronicle. The
TremereteamwillhaveaspreadsheetlistingthevariousmembersofeachHousethatareoutthere,
andkeepingtrackofthemisofparamountimportancetotheorganizationasawhole.

andarefirstgivenwholesectionsofhistoricalsagas(suchasYGododdin)andliterarylays

WhenapersonenterstheHornedSocietytheyenterasa
Thrall,unreadytobeonewhosharesinthepowerofthe
infernal.AperiodtutalagetoaServitorisrequired.Inorder
tobeconsideredworthyoffullmembershipshemust
increaseherabilitiesasnotedaboveandparticipateinthree
successfuldemonsummonings.Thesesummoningsneed
nothaveendedinanydealstakingplace,butmustfullfillthe

theresearchanddevelopmentoftheparadigmoftheHousetheycomefrom.However,inthe
interestofkeepingthispacket'onfocus'theywillnotbeprintedhere.Thatsaid,expecttoseethem

Soyouhaveyourmembership,you'vereapeditsbenefits,butwow,thedownside,you'resonotliking
thedownsidetoanyofthis,maybeit'stimetofindanotherHousetoheadoffto...notsofast.While
thereareanalogiestocollegemajorsinjoiningaHouse,changingmajorsreallyisn'tanoptionforyou
tomakeadecisiononyourself.Ifyou'reinaHouse,therearemembersofsaidHousewhohave
investedalotoftimeandeffortintoyou,andyou'renotgoinganywhereanytimesoon.Oh,youcan
attemptit,butTremereingeneralkeepcloserecordsofwho'swho,andinthesmallercruciblethatis

Sometimes,aTremeremayendupinthewrongHouse,andthe
powersthatbeseeandrecognizethis.Assuch,thisistheonly
openandappropriatewayforacharactertoswitchHouses.These
rareTremerearetheexception,nottherulehowever!Standard
bribesorcostsareinvolvedaswell.Asanexample,amemberof
HouseValiduswho'sperhapsmoresuitedtoaroleinHouse
Hashemmaybenegotiatedfor,andappropriaterecompenseto
the'oldHouse'mustbepaid.Thisisallsubjectentirelytotherole
playofallinvolved,andaswithanytransaction,caveatemptor...

OntheOOCsideofthis,obviouslyitissomethingthatSTsandthe
Coordinatorsofficeshouldcometoanagreementupon.Even
witha'legitimate'trade,yourPCmaystillfindhim/herselfblacklistedbyyourformercompatriots.

TheHazardsofMinmaxing:
Tremereplayersshouldrememberthatwhilebeingwilyandcleverisnormalforavampire(andabit
moresoforHouseandClan),thatcertainthingswon'tbetoleratedbyyoursuperiors.Thegarden
varietyapprenticemaythinkthey'rebeingcleverbytryingtocircumventHouserestrictions,butyou
shouldrememberthatyoursuperiorshaveseenmosttricksthatyouoranyothernewembraceehave
dreamedup.Simplyput:rememberthatinmostallcases,anythingyouhaveeverlearnedhasbeenat
thebehestofthemageincharge.ThisistrueofeverystageoftheTremerehierarchy,fromAcolyteto
Counselor.

Tremereareencouragedthatifthey'regoingtojoinaHouse,todosoattheearliestconvenience,to
beginbuildingtowardsthisgoal,andmosthavetheirHousespickedbythetimetheyareApprentice
oftheSecondCircleofMysteries.TheothersideofthiscoinisthatyourHousewillbevettingyouand
keepinganeyeuponyourprogressandlikelytalkingtoyoursuperioraboutsaidprogress.

Houseinquestion.ThereisnophysicalbarrierpreventingtheTremerefromactuallylearningit.
Rather,itisthefocusoftheHousethathascausedcertainpathstofalltothewayside.ATremere
learningthesewaysidemagicsisshowingthattheylackthededicationoftheHouseasawhole.
