Maintaining Planned Independent Requirements

for Long-Term Planning
In long-term planning, separate version numbers are used for planned independent requirement
to differentiate these simulative versions from the operative version of the demand program.

The aim of long-term planning is to check and adjust the various planning results gained from the
simulative versions of the demand program. Once you have checked the results, the appropriate
simulative versions are activated and are thus set as operative. This means that versions planned
in long-term planning can either complement operative versions or they can replace them within a
specified period.

In long-term planning, you can either create new versions of planned independent requirements
or you can copy existing planned independent requirements to a simulative version number. A
special report is available for copying existing versions.

To copy existing planned independent requirements versions to a simulative version, proceed as

follows:

1. Starting from the long-term planning menu, select, Planned indep.reqmts → Copy
version.

The system calls up the report Copy Version.

2. Limit the selection of the existing versions using the following selection criteria:

– plant

– material

– selection period

3. In the section of the screen entitled, Version, enter the number of the existing version in
the Source version field and the number of the simulation version in the Target version
field.
4. In the section of the screen entitled, Change target version, you can change the
quantities in the simulation version using various arithmetic operations and you can
displace them by as many months as you want into the future.

If you want to change the quantity in the simulation version, enter the quantity by which
the individual schedule lines of the simulation version are to be changed and select the
arithmetic operation to be used.

If you want to postpone the schedule lines of the simulation versions, enter the number of
months in the Postpone by n month(s) field.

5. The target version is not activated for long-term planning, which means that the field,
Target version active has not been selected.
6. To carry out the report, you can also maintain the following settings:

– If you want a history of the copied version to be maintained, select the field, History.

– If you want a list with the copied schedule lines after the report has been carried out,
select the field, Create list of results.

– If you want to test the report in simulative mode first, select the field, No data base
changes (simulation).

7. Once you have set all the parameters, select the Execute key.

The source version(s) are copied with the specified selection criteria.

Creating and Changing the Planning Scenario

The planning scenario provides the control data for long-term planning.

First, you allocate the plants which are to use this planning scenario to carry out simulative
planning. Thus, it is possible, for example, to create several planning scenarios where the same
plants are planned using different control parameters.

Then the independent requirements versions are allocated for which long-term planning is to be
carried out. Here, you can plan versions that are already productive in operative planning in
simulative mode and you can also plan new and changed independent requirements versions
that were created especially for long-term planning.
The following control parameters are also set:

• The planning period defines the period in which all planned independent requirements
are planned. If you do not specify a planning period, the system will plan all planned
independent requirements starting from today’s date until the date of the last independent
requirement.

You should also take the period before the planning period into account when
evaluating the planning result as dependent requirements may lie before the start
date of the planning period due to the safety time.

• The opening stock, that is plant stock that exists at the time of the planning run, used to
carry out long-term planning. The following possibilities are available:

o No opening stock: in this case, the system records a plant stock level of zero at
the time of the planning run.
o Safety stock as opening stock: in this case, the system uses the safety stock
recorded in the material master record as the opening stock.
o Plant stock at time of planning: in this case, the system accesses the current
plant stock level for each material at the time of the planning run.
o Average plant stock: the system calculates the average plant stock using
information from Inventory Controlling. The system uses this data to calculate the
average plant stock in the long-term planning menu.

For more information on the calculation of average plant stock, please refer to the section
Calculating Average Plant Stock

• Whether the system is also to create dependent requirements for consumption-based

materials, bulk materials, or Kanban materials.

• Whether the system is to copy sales orders from operative planning to long-term
planning.

• Whether a planning time fence is used. The planning time fence from MRP is used for
materials which have been assigned a planning time fence.

• Whether the system is to use make-to-order planning or project planning.

• Whether fixed receipts (purchase orders, production orders, and material reservations)
are included in long-term planning. If so, fixed receipts that were already planned are
included in the net requirements calculation.

• Whether firm purchase requisitions are included in long-term planning.· If so, the
system includes previously firmed purchase requisitions in the net requirements
calculation.

• Whether firm planned orders are included in long-term planning.·If so, you can change
firm planned orders in long-term planning and they are included in the net requirements
calculation.
• Which available capacity version the system is to use for carrying out long-term
planning. By using the capacity version you can maintain several available capacities in
the work center. In the Active version field, you can enter the version to be used in long-
term planning.

have maintained several versions and if certain versions are to be replaced by other
versions, enter the version to be replaced in the field Replaced version and, if necessary,
enter the period in which this version is to be replaced in the fields From and To.

If, for example, you want to plan the majority of materials using a specific version from
the operative planning and if you have also created a separate simulative version that is
to replace the operative version, then you must enter both version numbers. In so doing,
in the line of the simulative version number, you must enter the operative version in the
Replaced version field.

You receive new lines by choosing New Entry.

5. Enter the following control parameters for long-term planning:

– If necessary, the planning period

– Calculation of the opening stock

– If necessary, dependent requirements for consumption-based materials

– If necessary, whether sales orders are to be taken into account

accounting as planned figures.

The activity quantities are determined via the activity types and their formulas in the work centers.
The activity requirements quantities, determined in long-term planning are taken into account
when adjusting the activity requirements with the work center’s available activity. The activity
prices of the activity types are determined using the available activity and planned costs. The
activity prices are included in product costing.
The activity requirements of long-term planning is not automatically updated in cost center
accounting. Instead, it is transferred to cost center accounting using a separate function in the
long-term planning menu after the planning results have been adjusted.
